This customer brought me this '59 Vette this morning. He was as nervous as a cat! He explained to me that the paint was single-stage enamel that was painted in 1984.

He was urging me to "Err on the side of caution."

I agreed.

It was covered with swirls. He said it hadn't been polished since it was painted in '84!

The car was already clean so I started with:

1. Meg's Quik Clay
2. Tried M205... didn't cut the swirls...
3. Switched to M105, PC, LC Orange
4. M205, PC, LC White
5. IPA Wipe
6. Z5P applied with LC White (x2)
7. Z8 Wipe down

Wheels, tires, engine, interior were all perfect.

Nice car.

Very nice indeed. Is it just me or does the first two generations of the corvette look the best?;)

This 1st Gen Corvette is a true classic style. Red/Red with a White Cove is the definition of a Corvette to many people.

These cars (especially in this condition) are so rare, that they really turn heads. As much as I love the C5's and C6's, seeing a pristine "Straight-Axle" Vette is always a thrill!

Thanks.... I'll remember that!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I actually learned it from a customer of mine (thankfully he was nice about it)

Really OCD about his new BMW M6. But he taught me a great lesson when he mentioned that.

D!

Bill,
I totally agree with your comment on the "straight axel" Corvettes. They are beautiful from any angle. Good job and thanks for sharing.
P.S. I am glad we ordered a larger shirt for you...

Yeah, if you think about it... the cord drags around on the shop floor or driveway and picks up assorted varieties of dirt, lint, sand, hair, etc.

Then you drag it along the freshly polished paint!

Good advice.:notworthy:

I know it makes sense to have the cord

over the shoulder...but I found it harder trying to have the cord to stay on my shoulder while buffing....so I end up just letting the cord hang where ever...but alert of where it is touching the paint and not dragging the cord across it.
Maybe it takes a little used to I supposed.

Another beautiful job Bill! Thanks for the pic's. Regarding the cord, I purchased a MF apron from CG's that has built in velcro anchors on the shoulders for cord retention. Say what you want, but I prefer function over fashion and can use all the help I can get. :) No Foreign Objects or Debris (FOD).

You took the words right out of my mouth (or the text off my keyboard?)
'59 was the year of so many definitive changes in the automoblie industry. Beautiful machine!
