Lost e mail

PA DETAILER

DETAILED TODAY?
Well it was going ok today till.....i wrapped up some cords aroung the computer. The power cord came out. No big thing. Powered back up. We dropped verizon net but kept the home page/e-mails. No problem. When i powered back up i could not get back in verizon/e mails. It asks the secret answer to a question that i dont even remember???? Now the better half is listed as the PRIMARY user. You can reset her account/password. But that does me no good. Guess its lost forever? I called verizon, but nothing they could do. I opened a new yahoo e-mail. And of course you cant import my old because they still need your verizon account info (password etc). Guess i am locked out forever?

Dave,
Think really hard about that answer to the secret question...
It might be a really easy answer..

You must have set it up some time ago, and I find that more and more of the things I deal with oftentimes want to do a 2nd step to verify who you are..

Your PC went down hard because of the disconnect and coming back up, it had to go through those dang extra steps...

See if you can get Verizon to send you a Link to go to a place to Reset your password, and the secret question in your profile.. ---Never mind, I just remembered you said you disconnected your VZW email service...

Im surprised that you disconnected their email service and get to keep your email address through them and it is still working..
Make sure that it is going to keep on working forever or will it get knocked off after a few months..

The reason I say this is because my Comcast.net email address I had for over 10 years one day was gone because the Ex disconnected the Comcast.net account, and of course, didnt tell me..
What a nightmare to get another email provider and try to figure out what I lost over the transistion, etc..

Sorry this had to happen, it IS maddening at times..
Good luck

I still have problems once in a while because Adelphia.net changed to Comcast.net and a few my older accounts had the adelphia.net email so I cant get those accounts to change critical info as they always want to send a confirmation email to the discontinued severs. I am thinking of getting a gmail account as a back up I figure Google is such a huge well known name they wont drop it or change it. I fear Comcast will change it to Xfinity.net sooner or later as thats their newest buzz word.

Yea. Still no luck. Best i can do is open a new yahoo e- mail, and change it where i can. Guess they will be lost forever. And also true, verizon would sooner or later close it, since our service is now with ABB.

Ever think about archiving your emails to a local hard drive? If you do this you can drop a carrier and while you will lose the email address you will not lose your messages. Do you have an overall back-up strategy?

Sounds like you need to create a gmail account and get away from a provider supplied email address. This will no longer be an issue in the future then.

But what if Google, the originator of Gmail goes down or goes away? :)

Yeah, I know, we all need a back up of everything... Im working on it too, Dave.. :)
