Looking to buy Porter Cable 7424, which pads to buy with it???

I use Zaino stuff. I have a 2004 Honda Accord V6. I just finished cleaning and polishing it by hand and it looks great but I saw some vids of what the PC can do and I am sold on it. I have some light scratches that I want to remove with Z5 but I couldn't do it by hand. It was taking too long to make any decent progress.

So my question is, which pads should I get? (I use the Zaino Ultimate Detailing Kit) and btw, my paint is flawless besides the few light scratches.

i know nothing about zaino so im not going to comment

but what colour is your accord?

heres mine. are you a gen7 member?

After doing some more reading on this forum, I might just get the 7336 instead.

Do the 7336 and 7424 accept the same pads?

well you need to get a backing plate for both of them anyway and then you determine what pads

if you go with a 5 ot 6" backing plate then you can use 6-7.5" pads with most people using 6.5"

if you go with an edge backing plate/ adapter thingie..device then you can use their 6"pads

The 7336 and 7424 are the same machine except the 7336 has a 6 counterweight as apposed to the 5 in the 7424.

If i may ask... what is the difference of having the counter weight in the PC7336?

Is the technique the same as the 7424? or is more/less pressure sensitive?

You say you wanted to remove scratches with Z-5, gee I wonder why that didn't work. Sorry to sound harsh, but Z-5 is completely non-abrasive and also has no cleaners.

I use LC pads, but I'm sure there are much better ones out there.

I did it by arm and waited 20 minutes between coats. Maybe I didn't let it break down enough.

What Bigpoppa3346 is trying to tell you is that Z5 doesn't remove defects, it has very minor filling capabilities, but if you want to remove swirls, scratches, etc. you'll have to use an abrasive polish like Z-PC .

oh ya with the PC you should get a Xenon light or aleast a set of work lights so you can see if you have swirls

Check out this thread...it use to be stickied (hint, hint) in the Hall of Fame but got lost during the forum upgrade.

The Definitive Porter Cable Info Thread

It should be able to fully explain anything and everything about the PC.

I like small 3-4" pads, in my limited experiance with them, i find they shake the machine less and perform more work faster,

That was very helpful....answered my question and is a great resource.

Thanks MCA for digging up.

No problem...A lot of good informative stickies were lost when the forum was upgraded - I remembered that thread because it helped me with my PC purchase as well.

Oh okay, thanx. I should have bought some when I was at the store. I guess I have to make another trip there again.

Okay, if you were me and you had my car, which pads would you buy with the Porter Cable 7336sp? My paint does not have any swirls or hazing but does have a few light scratches. They are minor but I still want to get rid of them. I have been looking at this page about pads and it looks like the red and black pads would be all I need but I want to get the right stuff.

As I mentioned before, I use the Zaino system (minus Z-PC).
