Looking for a good detailer in N. Texas

I'm looking for a detailer with experience with a buffer. I'm in Keller, Texas (just north of mid cities) I have a black Lexus LS400 that has some hard water marks, swirls and is a little dull. From what I've read a buffer is needed to do the job right.

Any recommendations for anyone that can do this type of job in my area?

Thanks

I dont know anyone near the mid cities, and I do all my business in rockwall county.

But, you might not need hard polishing to brighten the paint up. Now to get all the swirls out you might depending on the severity, but a good paint cleaner followed by high quality wax I am sure would do the trick. I personally think machine polishing is last resort, but that is just me.

You need to talk with Scottwax or rlspringer from this board.

P.S. I was just in Keller yesterday (off 377 and Keller Hicks). :)

Thanks for the responses. I've emailed a few questions to Scott but I'm sure he's pretty busy with the nice weather we've have.

ZaneO. you were about a mile from my house. Is it too late for you to come back and detail my car? :D

I have a friend that lives back in that little housing addition off Keller Hicks on Ambrosia street.

Sorry, I flew back to Lubbock this morning. :) There is no doubt that one of those guys will be able to fix you up well.

ZaneO, that subdivison is pretty close, although I'm on the east side of Keller. Still not too far to drive back. :D

Scott,

I'll give you a call to set up a time for the detail.

Thanks for the responses.

John

I go to Keller all the time. As Scottwax is great and we pass customers to each other all the time. It all depends on scheduling. You can email me personally if you would like or get with Scott. Black vechicles is one of our favorite colors.

Thanks for all the emails with recommendations! I have an appointment with scottwax on saturday. It'll be nice to have a black car again that shines and is swirl/scratch free.

I took the car to several prof. detailers in the area and I was very impressed with the confidence everyone had with bringing out the best in a black car. Ultimately, though I wanted to go with someone from Autopia since the recommendation for scott's work came from fellow prof. detailers.

I'm sure I'll be impressed with Scott's work and be eager to post pictures.

Thanks again.

Not only do you have one great detailer, but 2.....thats just messed up man hahahaha.

Your in good hands :)

Hey John

I live practically next door to you in Southlake. Let me know how it goes as I could really use a good detailer too. Any before and after pics of your car would be great too! I'd do it myself if I wasn't so damn lazy. :)

Well, it is black again but not scratch free. Apparently, the previous owner used the roof and trunk lid as a shelf quite regularly and both areas also had bird bomb etchings. I wish I could have made it perfect for you but sometimes years of neglect are hard to overcome.

They did take good care of the interior though....still had that distinct Lexus interior smell despite being 8 years old.

It was great to meet you, John and your Zaino'ed Porsche looked magnificent! :wavey

Well that's disappointing. Were you able to tell before you started that you weren't going to be able to get out the scratches & bird droppings? Are we talking one or two scratches or a bunch of them?

Yeah, there was one area it was obvious the paint was etched all the way down and it appears the trunk lid and roof were regularly used as a shelf for purses, briefcases, etc. John bought the car from the original owner and I don't think he has had it very long. The hazing is gone and the car definitely looked a lot better. By the time I finished the sun was pretty low so I didn't have any strong light to check my work but just looking panel to panel under the garage lights you could see a large improvement.

I got a few pics of the whole car and some of the real deep bird bomb etching, so I will post them when I finish the roll.

Scott certainly worked hard and the car shines very nicely. Several people have commented that it looks like a different car. :D

Scott said that short of a repaint my only shot of removing the scratches was wet sanding. While it was disappointing to me (and Scott) that the scratches wouldnt come out, wet sanding really isnt worth it to me. The other shops I spoke with said the scratches could be removed with a pc but I guess they were probably blowing smoke to get my business.

Scott, my other cars are used to zaino so I think they'd run from your products. :dance

Hi John :wavey:

I suspect the other shops may have planned to use a rotary and a wool pad, but I don't think that would have made much difference. As Joe (Superior Shine) proved, proper rotary use doesn't remove enough paint to be measured by a paint thickness guage.

BTW, the Lowes right by you has the Porter Cable 7424 for $109 and they had several in stock...but not the proper backing plate. That, a few polishing pads and some #80 every 3 months would continue to make the scratches less noticable. Basically what I had to do with my car (which, thankfully had a lot less real deep scratches than yours....the risk you take buying used, I guess...and I bought mine from a family member!) because I just don't have the time to spend a weekend polishing it out.

Zaino looked terrific on your 911 (or was it a Carrera?) and Miata. I see no reason to change, what you are doing works! :) EX w/carnauba looked pretty good on the black Lexus though. ;)

Pics tomorrow, I worked until 8:15 PM today and just didn't have time to drop off my film.

Looking forward to the pictures, Scott. I'll be interested whether the other pros on the board think a rotary would help. I'll check out the pc, thanks for the tip, although I dont know if I'd use it on the Lexus. I may just have to continue having that one detailed. That's why I love white cars. Easy to keep looking good.
