Looking For A Different Wash Method?

I was in a local buick dealership before the showroom opened, talking to them about automation solutions for car ordering (computer internet based network solution), and the maintainance guy came thru QDing the cars with A CAN OF LEMMON PLEDGE!!!!

I could not believe it...... it made an incredible shine, but it just seemed more odd than anything I'd ever seen before in my life...... the chevy dealer I once did prep for either used FI or CP to do its QDing...... I was just shocked seeing someone polish the cars like they were living room furniture.

:scared :nixweiss

i've heard that a lot. if you need it to be incredibly shiny for a very short period of time, use lemon pledge. evidently, some concours people supposedly learned it. :nixweiss

All the oils and silicone no doubt. PLus the lemony smell makes buyers lose their senses and buy a car every time!:D

A year ago when I bought my Alfa, the paintwork looked in good condition (I had not found Autopia at this stage), when I got the car home I washed it, some kind of oil had been smeared all over the paintwork, it took about 2 months of washing and a few bars of clay to get the paint clean.

The result, swirls and minor scratches everywhere :( , a year later the car looks very good but it has been a very long and hard trip.

Shines like crazy.....same stuff that gives the shine for most carnuba wax formulations....neat huh?

He must go over the car 5 times a day though, pledge attracts dust like crazy.........

Bingo. I have seen people use pledge on a car and in less than 1 hour is covered in fine dust.:down

I was at Lowe's over the weekend and stumbled across the "cleaners" isle. I noticed a few cans of the Lemon pledge and read the back for applications. Who knows, I thought maybe they were recommending it be used on paint now for touch ups. This is not the case however. :p

They also had several tins of Johnson's paste wax (for floors obviously). Maybe he was going to apply some of that after the Pledge treatment. LOL! :p

No wonder so many cars leave showroom floors looking like crap, mass of swirls etc...dealers can be very harsh to new paint.

I hope he did a Murphy's Oil Soap wash first.

You can easily remove the rapidly accumulating dust with a feather duster.

If you use Pledge as a QD, you should really lay down a base coat of lemon oil first.

(These are jokes, of course. I posted something similar a couple of months ago, and I think some people took me seriously. Or maybe no one thought it was funny except me...:p )

plus, if you get into a fender bender, no need for an inconvenient and costly trip to the body shop. just use this :xyxthumbs :

Lemon Pledge has been an old stand-by at car shows for along time. Just as some guys will only wipe down their car and trucks with distilled water.

I believe Lemon Pledge, just like many other brands of furniture polish, is loaded with liquid parrafin. Hence the shine and the cover up factor.

Don't laugh at the dealer, it works till you get it out the door! Enjoy!

When I was 16 I worked at a big Toyota dealership detailing cars. I was basically a glorified lot boy, meaning I had access to a buffer and shop supplies.

To wipe down cars in the showroom we used these oiled cloths. Twice a day I'd wipe down the cars to remove dust, fingerprints, various kinds of gunk. I never knew what exactly was in those towels but it sure smelled petroleum-like.

I do recall that it made the cars nice and glossy. And if that appealed to shoppers, that's what it takes.
