Look over my "recipe" list for an S80 detail???

I plan on detailing a black S80 and just wanted to see what the crowd here thought of my "recipe."

Start off with a good wash w/Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo.

Then I'll give it a clay bar with the Meguiars Professional Detailing Clay.

After that I will use my Dewalt 849 in conjunction with the following polishes:

3M SMR for Dark Vehicles

3M Fine Cut RC if I find something the SMR isn't abrasive enough for.

and if I find something really nasty (which I won't - the 3M Medium Cut RC)

I will apply a final polish of Meg's #7

and then wax it with Meg's Gold Class Carnauba Wax.

Please feel free to give suggestions on any intermediaries between the SMR and the #7 - or if you feel there are other products I should be looking at.

Also - if you do suggest something - keep the acronyms to a minimum - they make my head spin! :shocked

Hmm, first don't start off with SMR because it contains fillers and if you use it first, everything after that will just remove the fillers. Instead of SMR I recommend going with 3M PI III RC and 3M PI III MG instead. These two products will actually *remove* all/most of your defects and you shouldn't even need the SMR. If you want to use #7, you can after the MG but it probably won't be necessary.

Also, instead of Gold Class wax, #16 seems to be a more popular product, and is extremely durable.

Oops, sorry about the acronyms.

3M Perfect It III Rubbing Compound

3M Perfect It III Machine Glaze

SMR = Swirl Mark Remover

Ok is this going on what you have or can get??? it looks fine to me I think using the poor boy line is cool for polishes and you then have to sit in a camp zanio or klasse I like the klasse camp my self.. then use a topper but you'll find a lot of choices out there..

I would suggest a more durable wax. Gold Class is not very durable. If you want a locally-bought product, at least move up to NXT.

I just had the Meguiar's on hand in quantity... however I'm not above using the #16 or S100 as a wax (although S100 isn't durable either in my experience).

I didn't think of the Fillers in SMR either, thanks for the heads up and the acronym removal JDookie.

NOW I'm thinking I'll be polishing using:

Meg's #2 or 3M PI III RC

Meg's #7 or 3M PI III MG

Then following up the polish with Klasse Sealant, which I will then top off with Meg's #16 or P21S.

How does this sound? Should I use AIO in between the MG/#7 and the Klasse Sealant?

He meant to say, " I think you would need the AIO to have the SG bond correctly" and I agree.

Anytime you use SG, it's always better to prep with AIO first.

I would also still recommend the 3M products over the Meg's that you've chosen, but either should work.

Looks Good then.

I don't have any of the Meg's here except the #7 which I still find is a great product personally. However for machine polish I will be buying the 3M. Last time I used/was taught to use a rotary we used 3M - and the result was OUTSTANDING. Took my nasty paint job and made the car look brand spanking new!

So now the polishing steps will be:

PI III RC Fine

PI III MG

Klasse AIO

Klasse SG

Then I'll top it off with P21S or Meg's 16 to get an even deeper appearance.

Thanks for the help guys.

That sounds like a winner. Yes, the 3M products can be used with a rotary to produce great results too.
