Look into disaster companies.

Auto Detail & Restoration
I'm only posting this thread because we loaned our extra fridge to my SIL.
They had a fire in one part of the house and it was sent to a company for clean up. It was in great condition ( polished and waxed) it did have some stains post detail.
( It was dent free and fully reconditioned)
It came back and was cleaned with what appears to be a red scotch brite and baking soda.
The full exterior and interior are scuffed as ready for repaint.

They charged for handing something back cosmetically much worse than it was before.

What ticks me off worse is they took her camcorder (new) and said it needed to go. Now they have no inventory of it. She deploys Jan. 15 and was taking it with her. How can someone charge (and I'm sure more than market value since it's an insurance job) and loose and damage without regard peoples property? Sorry for the rant but seriously look into people.
I'll be getting there number to insure she gets reimbursed for her camera. I can fix the fridge. Just make sure you check people out.
Off my box here are the pics sorry they are from my phone. That only proves how much worse it really is.

This experience has made me think many of us are capable of doing much better work as a sideline. I guess there are hacks in every line of business.
Ok now I'm of my box.
Have a Happy New Year!

John, it never stops for you does it?! Sorry to hear about the fire, and just as sorry to hear about the crap you're having to deal with in the aftermath.

Here's hoping to a better 2012!

Incidentally you're absolutely right -- there are hacks in every line of business. Goodness knows I've run into my fair share of them.

Thanks Charlie, this is just how things go I'm more upset for her the camcorder means alot to her while she is gone. To screw over anyone who serves this country really upsets me. We will get to it when we can attitude is not acceptable nor will be tolerated. A fridge is a fridge. But something simple to our troops/family IS important. This is not about me. But to take from one of them is unacceptable.
Thank you for your thought.

John,

I am so sorry that this had to happen to your Sister in Law and her family. And then for the people who are supposed to make things better only make things worse - I agree, absolutely intolerable, and someone needs to put heat on them. Sounds like they just stole the Camcorder and are claiming ignorance - really, really bad.

I have always wondered about these people who supposedly come in and remove repair smoke and fire damage. I am sure there are some honorable and reputable companies our there, I fear that perhaps the one that came out is not all that good.

Hope you can get things worked out - let us know what we can do to help, ok ???

Best,
Dan F

I worked in the insurance claims industry for 35 years and this occasionally happens. Talk to the owner of the restoration firm and tell him the camcorder is missing. It's possible they took it to an electronics restoration company for cleaning as it's a specialty item. If they're doing their job properly they should inventory every item that leaves the home and leave a copy with the homeowner. If you don't have any luck with the above, call the claims representative handling the claim and let him know what's happened. Did the insurance company recommend the restoration firm or did your relative pick one from the phone book? The restoration company should be licensed and bonded and their employees should also be bonded so if you don't get anywhere with the insurance company file a claim against the bond for the restoration company.
