Little Red Corvette

Friend of mine recently purchased a '92 Vette. He's now the third owner. While the paint was in decent shape, it was heavily swirled. He really didn't understand how badly the finish was being effected by the swirls until I put a few hours into the car with a series of Meguiar's products. Suffice it to say that at the end he was a believer in "the process!"

Car was first washed with Meg GC then a tough regimen of hand-applied HP, followed by #9, #7 and #26.

While it was a great day to detail, it was not so good for taking pictures. Temp was in the mid 50s but the sky was totally overcast so there wasn't a lot of sun to work with. Explains why the car looks more orange than red...

Very Nice! I love red detailed cars.

I did the same exact model Vette once and remembered the region housing the tail lights and the little air sills down the side were a pain in the *** to get too while polishing. Reguardless, looks like you had good luck with everything!

We were both happy with how it turned out. And yes, working on such sports cars is literally a pain in the back. By the time I was done with paint + wheels + windows my lower back was stiffening up on me and begging for some Motrin :D

Definitely need to buy one of those creeper stools!

P.S. Forgot to mention that the wheels were cleaned with BlackFire and dressed with Meg's High Endurance.

Windows were done inside and out with Stoners IG and a PakShak MF!!!

At least they are small. Working on the Aurora has me often wishing for the Corvette again. The Aurora must have like twice the surface area.

That car looks great, good work!

Thanks, Aurora! And yes, I know what you mean about the size. Except for the hood! That thing is freakin' long and wide!!! :D

did you do the motor?

Don't spray the front/middle of the engine. The ditributor is down there near the water pump and if it gets messed up, you will pay $$ to fix. Is it a LT-1 or 4?

The LT-4 was only available in the 1996's. It helped keep sales up before the new 1997 body style came out. I have a 1994 (black) and I am contemplating replacing the "gill" panels behind the front wheels with solid panels ie: no gills. Those thing are almost non functional and and pain in the butt to clean/wax. But they look cool so I haven't done it yet.

The car looks great. I see too many red cars cleaned that end up looking a "lipstick-red" color. I think the Toyotas were the worst, after being buffed they looked almost pink, but other makes did it too. I never did understand what caused that, I just slow down my processes and don't seem to run into that anymore. I really appreciate a nicely kept red car.

good job on the Vette. Beautiful wheels. That's one thing I really need to start paying more attention to. Clean wheels really make a BIG difference.

Thanks and yes, the wheels are an important step. Every good detailer knows the final look is all in the small details that most overlook. It's very important to me to have the wheel wells cleaned as well so they are black and not brown/tan. Makes a big difference; especially when it comes to picture time!!! :xyxthumbs

Here's another pic. If you look fast, you might think you just saw a Ferrari! :D
