Little confused about what is best for my red truck - K or Z?

Alright I'm new here so go easy. First off, Ive done a lot of research and a lot of reading and searching through the forums, but I'm still not 100% on what I need to do, so hopefully some of the pros here can help me out. I have two basic questions. 1st, what is the preferred system for my paint and vehicle. 2nd, what are the steps to use and additional products required.

My primary baby is a Bright Red 2001 Ford F150 kept outside 24-7 (cant even fit in garage). My secondary, daily driver, garaged 4/7 days is a Silver 2000 Toyota Celica. Im primarily concerned about how the products I choose will look on the red truck, but it should also look good on silver as well.

Now, my main issue in picking what I do is that I want something really durable. Because my truck is parked outside it will be relatively difficult to apply multiple coats, but Im willing to do this if I have something really durable that will last a few months at a time. As such this appears to eliminate Blackfire (I love the look but the durability issue and upkeep makes it not worth it to me). And seems to leave Zaino and Klasse since both seem to have about the same durability.

But, I'm a little confused as to which will look better on my bright red? On one hand most people say Klasse looks better on reds and blacks, but then again the CMA website states "Some enthusiasts feel the shine is "sterile" on dark color cars." Which totally throws me off. Would my bright red be considered dark? or light? And then some people have also stated that Zaino gives red a "candy apple red" appearance, which would seem to imply that Z would be better on red? So what do you think would be better, Z or K?

Also, if I go the Klasse route, which I think I am leaning towards at the moment... would it be necessary to use AIO or would just SG alone work? The condition of my red paint is very good I would say, but it does have light swirling on it from the dealer improperly washing/waxing the truck before I got it. I am wondering because since the paint is new I am wondering if it would be bad to use the abrasive polish and not just skip to the sealant since Im mostly concerned about protection. As it is, if I do go the Klasse route here are the steps and products I would use, please correct me if I'm not using the best product or missing a step:

1. Dawn wash

2. Mother's Clay Kit

3. H20 Rinse/wash to get off clay residue

4. AIO

5. SG x 2-5?

6. I think I want to avoid a carnuba topper so that over time I can simply apply more SG without having to strip everything down. (Less maintenance as far as I can tell.)

After that maintain by washing with: Meg gold class

QD: Either Eagle One or Sonous Acrylic (I believe neither of these have carnuba which would interfere with layering Klasse?) Also, would the Sonous be ok to use for wetting the applicator while applying AIO and SG? I know I should probably stay away from MQD since it contains carnuba.

Do I have my steps correct? Is MGC is good wash or is there something more recommended? Ive had trouble finding what the best wash would be as well.

Thanks in advance,

Laurence

And what's wrong with the "shiny candycoated look"? Klasse will darken your paint, Zaino shows it's true color...

I have 2 BRIGHT red cars, One is a daily driver and one is a show car. I have never used K but I would like to some day but I think that Z on red looks better than great. I have people ask me what I use on our cars all the time. I am not going to try to sell you on one or the other. Just use one of these two:up

First off welcome to the forum!

No one here will be able to tell you which looks better because it is a judgement call. Only you will be able to see which you like better.

But anyways I say buy both! and try em both.

Now to answer some of your ??

Sonus works well with Klasse IMO since it is acrylic kinda like klasse. BUT E1 is less expensive and wash before applying more KLasse if you go that route and the QD should be gone by then.

FOr clay residue I would just use a wet MF why rinse the entire car if you only get it in a few spots....And when claying properly normally you get very little residue if any. You could clay after washing before you rinse too. (DEPENDS on CLAY). WIth MOTHERS follow their directions though as it does not like soap for a lube.

MGC is a great wash and a great price.

NOWWWWWWWWWWW

If you go the Zaino route I suggest you use their wash and QD.

See... this is exactly why I am confused!!! lol

Im attaching a picture... doesnt really show how good the paint quality is, but it will at least show the current state of it's color.

Any chance either of you have pictures showing the difference between "candy apple" Zaino red an dark Klassed red? I'm guessing candy apple means more of a bright red and klasse would be more of a wet look red?

Laurence

I personally think digital pictures will not show what you can see up close in person.

I once took a pic of the front of my truck to show the AUTOPIA license frame and the truck looked clean....yet it had a small village worth of dead bugs on it.

ONLY you can choose what looks best......and if you only try one you will never know what the other product will look like.

No matter what people tell you your eyes are the judge............

Come on spend some money and buy both and do a test for us.:D

here is a pic of the SS and the front corner of the Saturn, I think that the looks is shiny, candycoated, glowing, deep, slick,
smooth, electric, and I really like it

I dont want to get in a Z vs. K thing here :argue I think that best thing to do Is try both and see what YOU like!

<em class='bbc'>PS I think your truck looks great as is![/i]

Zaino on your silver Celica and Klasse+Carnauba on your red truck.

Both Zaino and Klasse, with the proper paint prep, will look killer on red. However, IMO.....and I repeat...IMO ONLY......I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that multiple coats of Klasse SG topped with a good quality carnauba wax will look better than multiple coats of Zaino....at least it did for black. I consider red and black similar in the sense that both are non-metallic and both benefit when the shine has a lot of depth, warmth & wetness.

This is not to say that Zaino doesn't provide depth and wetness because it certainly does. However, unless your car is metallic or lighter colored, the slight darkening effect of several coats of Klasse plus a carnauba topper on a color like red will provide a slightly better look IMO.

Also, don't worry about the carnauba topper preventing you from adding more SG layers. Once your carnauba topper is a few months old, just give your car a good wash and you won't have any bonding problems, especially since the car is outside all the time.

Alright last question... what would be the best QD to use that wouldnt interfere with the bonding of the AIO/SG since I will probably have to QD between coats since it's parked outside?

I was looking at the description of the E1QD and that says it contains teflon and I'm wondering if this would be a problem. And then I know MQD contains carnuba so that is probably no good either. What about MFI?

Or should I just not worry about it and just wash my truck down between coats?

(Still stuck between K and Z.. BTW.. lol but I will make the decision soon.)

Laurence

If going the KLasse route and you will not wash between layers then I say use the Sonus QD as it is acrylic not carnauba.

But if you just Wash then layer the QD you choose does not matter with Klasse.

I like Klasse because you can set it and forget it (sounds like that infomercial) and just wash it almost every week. Well at least I have experience with doing that. After 5 coats of SG it'll be at least 6 months before you need to rewax. I like that aspect. (not saying that you can't do that with zaino or any other product).

Either way you'll be golden, just that K might have a more inexpensive startup cost.
