liquid luster

Pull Over!
Has anyone ever heard of this product? I was at the World of Wheels auto show and they had a guy demonstrating by taking a can of spray paint and spraying it on an extremely clean hood. I was rubbing on it with a damp towel and it wouldn't come off so it was definetely paint.

He took a dab of this stuff and used a piece of tissue and rubbed it in, the spray paint he put on it came right off.

It says on the bottle that it is an Ultra high gloss, non-abrasive, carnauba formula auto wax. Clear coat safe and also says that it helps eliminate swirls. I bought a bottle for $20 and got a bottle free, you never know when I might spill some kind of junk on my paint so that is why. Anyone ever use it or heard of it? I'm not using it on my truck for normal waxing, might try it on the family car though.

The hood that they were trying this stuff on was VERY shiney so it has me wondering.

A description from one website:

Remember that infomercial years ago where they poured lighter fluid on the hood of a car and set it on fire? After they put out the flames, they wiped the hood with Liquid Lustre and presto! No sign of damage. Same thing happened when they dissolved metal filings with acid on the car hood, and when they graffitied it with spray paint. What is this magic stuff? This powerful pink non-abrasive wax, a blend of carnauba wax, solvents, and emulsifiers, combines cleaning and polishing in one easy step and leaves your car gleaming and protected from that fool with the lighter fluid.
List price is $12.95

A few people here have used it and like it as a one step quickie product, but definitely don't fall for the huckster's hype. BTW, I am sure the reason the hood was so shiny is because they constantly use LL on it and the hood is just highly polished.

hey bro,

im in covington also and just got home from the world of wheels in the dome. you got to this faster than i did. i thought long about the liquid lustre and probably would've bought it but the autopian in me left me skeptical. i'll stick w/ dacp and the klasse twinns.

oh yeah and after the water sheeted off of the hood in the demonstration i got one of the super dome lights in the hood and guess what.... still swirled HAHAHA. im sold...not!!:down

Hey bro,

I didn't catch the swirled paint, I don't plan on using this stuff on my paint, I have better stuff for that (DACP/#9/etc), but I'll probably use it on the front to remove bugs, tar, etc and probably on chrome.

hey guys, i didn't see ya'll at the world of wheels. did either of you stop at the soonydaze booth with the 1Z products? it was the booth with the Ferrari 328GTS. if you passed by i wish you had spoken with me, would've been nice to meet some other NOLA area autopians.

Hey Ranch4x4.

There used to be an infomercial on T.V. a few years ago for this product. They did all kinds of crazy stuff to the cars and then used the Liquid Lustre to fix it up. They put lighter fluid on the hood and then lit it on fire with no ill effects. They used paint and other stuff that I cant recall right now.

I bought some back then, and I still have some of it left. They deffinetly hype you up to buy it. I'm sure they have sold a ton of it. I didnt even think that you could still get it.

:lol I've seen that 'sheeting' demonstration at the Dallas Autorama. The guy slowly ran water out of the end of the hose over the hood and then claimed LL simply sheeting the water off the car when it rained. I reached down into the catch pan underneath the hood and got my hand wet, then splashed it on the hood....guess what? It beaded up! About half the people watching laughed and walked away and I got a really dirty look from the demonstrator.

sonnydaze,

im going again tommorow night. i didn't catch your booth but i'll definately be looking out for you. thanks for the heads up. what's your name, i'll ask for you.

hey jcrawford, my booth is against the wall towards the back left corner near street styles booth and all the motorcycles. my name is darren. if you've never tried the 1Z line you can try some out on a junkyard hood i've got at the booth. i promise i won't be spraying any paint on it or polishing up any pennies, just showing you some of the products that really work and are slowly gaining in popularity on this forum. come see me, i'll be there all day.

On Topic: The Liquid Lustre is an excellent 1 step product and produces a decent shine. The best part about the product is that it does last a long time.

Word of Advice: Ignore the hype and give the stuff a try on your daily driver. It is a very respectable 1 step...maybe the best I have come across.

Also, you can order is directly from the mfr. for less than $20..even factoring in S/H.

can't believe i missed your booth. i was looking hard for detailing stuff. i had told my girlfriend how disappointed in the turnout of detailing exhibitors. see ya there.
