Lincoln LS?? Opinions Please!

Hello everyone. I am contemplating purchasing a new to me Lincoln LS, most likely a 2000 or 2001. Does anyone here own one? I can't recall seeing photos of any in the Click and Brag forum. I would love to hear some impressions from owners if you donâ€â„¢t mind.

All I know about these cars really is that they are RWD and have an optional V8. I really can't afford a new one so it will have to be used. Originally I had wanted a 3 Series BMW but I can't afford that car either.

I found this car on Autotrader.Com. 2001, black, V8, 59k miles @ $14,000.00. Does that sound reasonable to you? I am coming from a V8 sedan so I would like to stay with a V8 sedan.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

One of my regulars has a 2003 ( I think) LSE and that is one nice car! I love driving that thing around. It rides very nice and it handles very well for a bigger car. His has the V8 in it. I really would like to have one myself.

It was compared to a BMW by many car magazines as far as drivability is concerned. Obviously will depreciate faster but I guess that could be a good thing when buying a used car.

Not sure about its reliability.

I haven't driven one myself, but a friend, who has a Jag Xj and older BMW 5 Series is looking to get rid of one of those and is seriously considering one. He was impressed. He thought Ford did a good engineering job and it was a lot of car for the money. He is used to european cars and he felt it has that feel.

I have seen them as low as $12,000 depending on options and if they have the sport package. Also check out www.getauto.com very easy to locate one there. Getauto is also owned by the same people that own autotrader.

That is good news to hear beastie. You have a nice ride as well, looks like the one I listed above.

I found another one I am interested in. Blue, V6, 5spd with the sport package. Miles are kind of high though, 70k. $11,000.00. I am learly of buying high mileage cars though.

Thanks for all the replies so far!

Yeah I am not to big on FWD cars. Not saying that aren't nice cars but they just aren't for me. I test drove the ES300 a while back and I didn't like the steering at all, felt heavy and slow. I want to stick with rwd.

Seems like a lot of car for the money. I rented one a few years ago to drive to Vegas. Made trip in one of my fastest times--felt fairly stealthy in it. From memory, V8 was smooth and liked to rev, decent power (252 hp), not a lot of torque at low rpms as hp peak is at 61k but nice engine. Nice smooth ride (hey, it's a Lincoln) seats were comfortable, could have offered more support but no backache afterward. A buddy of mine has an '03 V6 auto. I've never driven it but he likes it.

Different strokes for different folks. Just for giggles, give the V-6 Camry and Avalon a shot. We drove them on a vacation in Oregon (Avalon 1k in a week) and a stripped Camry (V-6) back across the country from Seattle to N.C. and were really impressed. Our new car decision that year (2002) came down to the Avalon or the Lexus LS430. (Not enough rear seat room in the Camry) My wife wanted the Avalon; I, the Lexus. It was my turn to pick, so I chose the LS430; but it was really a narrow margin overall. We did look at and drive the LS (V-6 and V-8) and didn't really like it. Also don't overlook the Lexus LS series.

Hmm, hard to find a good comparable rwd car of same age for that price. Everything was fwd those years. And you'd have to find a much older Lexus GS for 14k--my wife is selling her '00 and Edmunds TMV says it's still worth $19-21k.

You could get an awd Audi A4 1.8T for $12-13k or A6 2.8 for $15-16k.

My girlfriend is in love with the seat heaters on the LS. With sport suspension, ride is not pleasure boat like. I agree with torque not being a big point of engine. Good power though in upper half of rev range. Brakes are stiff, seatbelt warning is very annoying, steering is weighted but feel is so-so, seats can be slippery considering its capable handling, radio is very good, great cargo space, throttle response is so-so. Overall, I'd rate it 8.3 of 10. (What's a 10 anyway?)

Have you considered an Infiniti Q45? I think you can get a 98 or 99 for about $15000 with under 70,000 miles. And they should be more reliable used than a 2001 Lincoln with same miles.

I always thought the Infiniti Q45 was too much money but I will take a look! Always loved how those cars looked.

Thanks for the help everyone, I will update in Click and Brag once I have bought a car.

You may want to try an ES330. More horsepower and a lot more steering feel and performance. I love mine.

Great resale value. Levinson sound system and a boat load of luxury features + the other 50% of owner satisfaction-good dealers! I get treated like a Prince when I do routine maintenance.
