Lifespan of the backing plate that comes with the UDM?

I'm wondering if the backing plate that comes with the UDM can be used indefinitely or does it eventually need replacing? If they do need replacing eventually, what is the average lifespan of one? I just want to make sure that I have an extra one as a backup if I do eventually need to replace it!

I wouldn't know but I'm interested! The backing plate seems really sturdy and seems like it will last a loooong time.

I cannot speak for the UDM but from what I can tell its very similar to the one that comes with the PC minus size. I used the one that came with my PC for 3 years before the Velcro started to break off. I would say you are good for a long long time with it. The UDM is very nicely built.

That's good to know William! One of the reasons I ask is because a friend of mine has a PC and I'm not sure how old it is, or how old the backing plate is, but the velcro on his doesn't hold very well at all because unless it's pushed up good against the paint, the pads just fly off the unit even at low speeds! Makes it very tricky to use his PC, you have to be super careful when going on the curves of the car.

Yep that is the same thing that happened to mine. When that happens you just have to spend the $18 and get a new backing plate. But like I said I have been around these forums since 2002 and I have not once read about someones backing plate going bad so it does not happen very often. I would not be worried about it.

it does happen occasionally, I'd guess with average usage you could get 5-10 years out of one. Pros use them often and they last quite a while for them.
