License Plate Registration Tag's

Wife was asking last night about the registration tags for the cars....both come due on the cars this month...I said that I had them but wanted to take the plates off, clean under the plate, then remove the old tag to place the new one....she called me anal:D ( I love that woman)

I said just look at the cars on the road...some people don't even know where to place the sticker.....they don't take the old one off, so there is a huge stack of previous years, looks terrible IMO.....some that I have seen even place it along side the old one:eek:...or because the licence plate frame is in the way they just kind of stick it on both...those are lazy people to me....here in CA the year is on the left side and the month on the right...you would be surprised how many people don't understand this:wow:

You can call me what you want but if its not done right then its not worth doing at all IMO

I take my plates off every so often and clean behind them as well...

here in connecticut we have stopped using the liscence plate sticker and gone to a new one in the windshield...I think they changed this because people were stealing them.

I do the same with our cars...we are both anal Stephan:D....I would bet that we will do the same here in CA soon....I have had quite a few friends have there's lifted from the cars....someone said to make an X in the tags with a razor blade so that would keep them from getting it off....but then the edges would start to peel back...I think...

They did that with our window stickers, if someone tries to remove them they break into pieces and become unusable.

The sticker is on the outside? I would have thought they would have made an inside one....and I'm guessing that its on the windshield

its on the inside...and yes its on the windshield, driver side...its meant to be if your window was open and someone reached in and tried to peel it off it would come apart...

if it was on the ouside with the amount of times I wash my car it would fall apart in a week..:D

The tags we use on our cars in Utah are designed not to come off. It does reduce the chance of them being stolen, but the fine for driving around with stolen stickers is the same as with stolen plates, so a smart person would just take the whole plate.

I actually did something like that to someone once. It was when I lived in an apartment and worked really late. I would usually get home at 2:00 am or so. This one guy used to park in my spot all the time because he assumed that I wasn't home. I kept leaving notes on his car and even complaining to the apartment manager, but he kept on doing it. So one night I took his license plates off and leaned them against the bike rack next to my parking spot. In the morning his car was gone, but the plates were still there. That night when I got home from work, there was his car again. It had nice new plates on it with new tags. So I took those off and put his old ones back on. ;) I left the new ones by the bike rack for him again, but he never did take them. They finally disappeared a couple weeks later, but he never did park in my spot again. ;) I didn't have a car that I really worried about him vandalizing, but it was still kind of a stupid thing to do. I was 18 and ticked off that he didn't have respect for my parking spot though, so it seemed appropriate.

Wish they would do that here in OKLAHOMA. That would be

It really gets me how a person can have a luxury car and just slap the new registration on over the old one, without even taking off the license plate frame. You can see the old one's border beneath. I also notice alot of luxury cars (Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, etc.) with expired registration and no continuation "Red" sticker on their rear windshield (California). How can they afford a nice car but cannot afford to register it? In my opinion, they have no right to drive if they can't pay. I mean, not just a month or two, but six months, a year, even saw a 2005 tag on car the other day! I wonder if the cops, CHP can pull them over and tow their car away for that? I remove the plate, clean it all up, scrape old tag off, put new one on. It's just a matter of pride in ownership. Some people are so damn lazy.......:wall

You can get sited for expired tags in Calif....as for towing I don't know unless they are in the rears

we own our plates ..when we sell a car we take our plates off and put them on our next car;)

Same here in Wisconsin.

I always take my old tags off before putting the new one on. It's not easy, they make them not to come off. The have cuts every so often so when you start peeling it doesn't all come off and the adhesive is really strong. Takes a bit of work with a heat gun, razor blade and some goo gone.

That doesn't make me anal does it. :notme:

I know that when I traded in my truck for a new car, I asked to keep my "personalized" plates and I have the truck plates on my new car now. But somehow, the DMV still screwed up and sent me new plates. I got it straightened out though, and the dealer told me to just "keep" the plates that the DMV sent me. They sit in my garage in the original envelope.

yes it dose! :D

I use a plastic scrapper with the heat gun...once I get one side lifting from heat...I can scrap across the surface lifting the rest as long as I can keep the heat in range of the sticker...then like you Goo Gone or WD40 will lift the rest of the glue

In NY the regi has been on the W/S for as long as I can remember.
To me seeing them on the plates is odd unless it's a bike or a trailer.

The only time we can use our plates on another car in Utah is when they are vanity plates. Otherwise I have to pay to get new ones. That really burns me when I have a random number plate that I get used to, but oh well. My next set of plates are going to say OCD3TLZ on them. ;)
