LED Ambient Lighting?

I have been doing a few things here and there lately on updating my garage, since it is the one part of the house I spend most of time. I have got my work lighting and detail lighting taken care of, and I want to get a Race Deck or similar floor put down in the next few months. One thing I have thought about doing lately is installing LED ambient lighting around by the ceiling. I am sure you all have porbably seen this in bars where it is placed around ceilings and shevles, to give off a glowing neon effect. If executed properly I think it could look prety cool.

Have any of you all done this, seem it done, or maybe even considered it yourselves? If anyone has done it, could you post some pics? I am looking to get ideas and see if this will looks as good as I am envisioing it :)

To do that effect right, you'd probably have to build a soffit around the perimeter of the room with a ledge to hide the light source; that's the only way to have just the "glow" effect without seeing hot spots where the actual diodes are. I've looked into doing something similar, just haven't ever gone ahead with it.

Ultimately you just have to determine how much space something like that will take up and if you can spare the head-room. (NOTE: not my pics, these were from Google.)

Yeah, you're right. Without something that can conseal the LED fixtures itself, it just won't look right. To do it right, I will probably cost more than I really want to spend on something for purely asthetics at the moment. Definitely something on the later on list I guess. I am sure I'd catch heck for doing something like this for the garage anyways, and not the living room first:lol1:
