Leave LSP on finishing pad?

This is probably a stupid noob question, but.... I used my PC for the first time today (it rocks!), and used 476s with an Excel finishing pad (grey). I used a butter knife to spread the 476s on the pad, but it just seemed to soak it up! I had to use a lot of product to get the wax spread evenly across the pad! I think I probably used 1/10 of the tin or so. I didn't use too much, as it left a VERY thin coat (so thin I had a hard time seeing where it was applied), but I had to re-apply wax to the pad twice after the initial application (okay, so it was on a Tahoe which has a lot of surface area, but stilll....).

So to my question: Can I leave the wax on the pad sealed up in a ziplock bag so I don't have to use so much wax every time I wax the vehicle? Or will it create issues?

Thanks!

Teutonics- Nah, that's not a stupid Q at all.

Oh, first off, at the risk of sounding all :nono you really don't need to use that much wax. Each time I use 476S by PC I use so little you can't tell I used *any* by looking at the can.

Anyhow...

I've done it both ways and it seems that storing it in a baggie with wax still on it leads to issues. I've had it dry out anyhow (sorta surprised me the first time) and I've also had it get moldy/mildewy. These days I try to clean the wax out as best I can with Dawn or, more recently with stuff from TOL that I bought ages ago called "Remove All". Never thought of using it to clean pads until somebody here suggested it, but it works pretty well.

Here's something to try with regard to how-much-wax: Rub the pad very gently over the way (yeah, I know, you'll have to scrunch it up to get it in the can). Then rub the pad together to fully distribute it all over the pad. Then *scrape* the pad with the butter knife. It'll look like there's no wax on the pad. Use it on something that'll readily show if wax is getting transferred (chrome is great for this). You'll see that you *do* get a thin application of wax. Even a *super*-thin applicationof 476S is enough, so it oughta work great. Then just use the butter knife to add a tiny amount of wax after doing a large area. I add wax maybe five times in the course of doing a large sedan.

Don't worry about clearly seeing the wax on the vehicle. If you work methodically/sytematically, the PC will distribute the wax just fine (all those orbits-per-minute will ensure that it gets on there). IMO most people use many, many times more wax than they need to...it takes me years to use up any can of wax and I wax a lot.
