Leather Seat Question

I have a question... I have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The interior is flawless, except for the drivers seat. To many people over the years that drove it have sat sideways in the seat while exiting or entering. Various family members, mechanics etc... I condition the leather frequently and take care in cleaning it etc.. The bottom part of the seat (the one you sit on) has many wrinkles and a few cracks on the side bolster. The seat back is perfect and has no cracks or wrinkles. I want to get that fixed, I know that with true leather seats such as Ferrari's etc... you can get the leather stripped, sanded and redyed and the seats look like new! Is this possible in my case? I don't want to buy another seat as they are very expensive and my seat is fine it's just that the leather is very worn.

Does anyone know any shops in Illinois?? Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The same is true with Gms sucky leather, but it only takes a few years. And the best thing I found was to go to the dealer and just buy the leather bottom seat cover for a $100. A more long term fix would be to go to Katskins.com and buy a stock replacement that is a much better quality. I would think either would work with your Jeep as well.

I think for cheaper than that you could drop it off at a hopolstry(sp?) shop. If you’re a DIYer take the whole seat out and bring it inside. Remove the old and put on the new. Take your time lining up the seams and getting it on there. You may need a hairdryer to hest up the leather to get in just right.

Any good automotive interior repair shop should be able to replace the worn piece at a decent price without replacing the whole seat or hide.

Remove the old leather and put on the new correct? I want it to match the same pattern and color, that will probably need to be OEM.

This woud probably be the safest bet if you don't think you can do it yourself...although a body shop should be able to order JUST the cover. When I had my accident last year, they ordered a new seat (frame and padding) but put my original cover over it, so I don't see why a cover couldn't be ordered to put over your frame & padding.

Check into Katskins if you’re going to keep your jeep. I looked at a truck with katskin on the front seat and OEM back and I could not tell the difference.

Katskinz looks OEM right? I want the same design and pattern, I looked at their site and didn't see any applications on a jeep grand cherokee.

They look OEM, but I have never looked into them for anything but GMs. There is also Classic Soft Trim yet again I have only looked into them for GMs, but I don't know how OEM they look.

You could just try rubbing it out with you thumb, it work for me a little bit. . Just get some lether conditioner and put a little on a rag and with your thumb rub it out. Just a suggestion if all else fails

For wrinkles I completely saturate the area with Woolite and water mix, the work out the wrinkles with a brush. This will help, but doesn't correct everything. Personally, I don't bother with wrinkles/creases on my own, but I know that it drives some people nuts. IMO it's part of the aging process, and all leather stretches.

For cracks that look like cuts in the leather I use a product from Leather Masters called 'scratch/scuff remover'. If it's not too deep this will fix the issue every time. TOL sells it -talk to Irene.
