I want to try a new Leather Cleaner/Conditioner product and am tossed between the 1Z Einszett Leather Care and the Leatherique. Any input on either of these products.?

many people will say that Leatherique is on top but i have seen plenty of people using 1z Leather Care that have loved that as well. It all depends on you and what it is that you are looking for.

Is this for personal vehicles or clients cars . . . . and what types of vehicles do you do most?

This is primarily for use on Clients cars, however, I will also be using it on the leather seats in my Sky. Right now I use Lexol, which does a pretty decent job, but wanted to step it up a few notches. Right now, I have an 08' Explorer lined up for two weeks from now (tan leather), and I also have a Mercedes C300 lined up for spring with tan leather.

I haven't used either of the two in the poll but, the cleaner/ conditioner I prefer is Leather Masters. This is by far the best I have tried out of the others I have used.

There is post about 1Z made by me before with comments from Leather pros. Its not suitable for modern coated leather found in many cars.

You really want to think about using a leather protector, not smearing conditioner over a layer of plastic which sits over the leather in your car.

Thta is exactly what I want. Something that won't make the leather look fake or "plasticy", if thats even a word...I want something that will condition the leather and keep it looking new, and prevent it from cracking.

Hi Street

Dirt is what will damage protected (modern) auto leather. Putting conditing oils on the seats attracts dirt b/c it is not going to be obsorbed. As others have mentioned check out Leather Masters, i think Detailers Domain sells them!

In theory the protector will keep the dirt at bay and regular cleaning with a dedicated cleaner every quater should help keep things really clean. Wipe down the leather with a soft, damp cloth when it starts to look grubby. That should remove most build up off of the protector.

i have them all except 1zeinszett. i prefer leathermasters vital and protecting cream(personally dislike their strong cleaner), but give the nod to leatherique for deep cleaning and revitalizing bad leather. for pleather surfaces i just use distilled water n high quality APC and finish with 303 cause the leather conditioners dont do squat for most vinyls imho. they just become streaky or greasy. i would think ur saturn has pleather seats so u should take that into consideration. stay away from anything greasy like lexol conditioner, connolly hide food etc stuff just sits on the surface and stinks. i call them both chemical mayonnaise.

Leatherique has a very nice rejuvinator oil that is in a totally different league than all the other leather conditioner. However, a product like the rejuvinator oil is overkill for regular use on good condition leather surfaces.

In the case of well kept leather, I would just use Prestine Clean which is a cleaner with mild conditioners in one.

I still haven't gotten around to using the Leatherique I bought ages ago...just seems like such a big production. I *am* planning to use it on the XJS, but that's a special case.

I'm doing fine with Sonus and LM on the Audis and the Yukon, and those products are quick and easy.

I have both. I am using Leatherique once a year and 1Z every couple of months. I also have a bottle of Sonus Leather Conditioner but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

1Z advertises their leather care as being specifically designed for coated/treated leather?!

Also, I'm trying to decide between Lexol or chemical guys leather cleaner. Any suggestion?

As far as there advertisement, they can probably say just about anything! If you have gallons of product you need to sell, suggest its fine for everything.

CG's leather cleaner is very strong and dries quickly. This can lead to what looks a stain or over clean on sections so just make sure you move fast or work in sections and watch for drips that run down the leather incase you dont see them.

Really a good leather is something that is water based, it will help rehydrate coated leather. Personally the Wolfgang one is nice and the one i use.

As for the protection, Leather Masters Protector is easily avalible and it works. No conditioners.

Here are two posts which you will find helpful. In them some leather Pros, I and other forum members talk about the 1Z product and also why you dont want to use such conditioners:

Lots of people ask if my leather is protected, why does Leatherique work so well? The cleaners work, but the oils wont help as you can read in the above posts.

Again, people say "but my protected leather feels so nice after leatherique". I believe its a chemical in the oils of leatherique (i think lanolin) which softens the polyurethane coating making it feel "nice". At the same time attracting dirt etc back to the seat.

Not that matters for some as that means the customer back sooner for another leather clean!

It is indeed safe, one thing to note, there a few "leather pros" pitching their own products here and on other forums. 1z is a very respectable company that makes some very fine products. They do indeed state that their product is MEANT, not safe for, MEANT for coated leather. I think I'll take their claims over a few "experts" pushing their agendas.

I use it monthly. It is non greasy and leaves the seats very matte but at the same time seems to leave a coating of something (it is carnauba based) that seems to do a great job of protecting the leather from oil absorption.

Thanks for the response. :)

Can Wolfgang leather cleaner be sprayed directly onto the leather, then agitated with a leather scrub brush, then wiped with a damp towel?

Also, I have optimum protectant plus to follow after I clean the leather(coated).

I've used Autoglym's cleaner and conditioner on the Jag's seats and it did a reasonable job. I'm looking forward to using my Leather Masters on them though. I've only used LM on a GTP Grand Prix but was quite content with the results. The feel was nice and the smell was non-invasive.
