Lc wool wheel wash mitt

My quick review from the ACC store.

I was very excited to get this as it allows me to hand clean my wheels without large brushes that "clank" against my wheels. It works great and is almost the prefect size. My only major complaint is the black die still bleeds and turns my hand black and this is after 6+ months of use.

Pros:
  • Fits the hand nicely without being to large
  • Cleans well
  • Seems to be almost the perfect size

Cons:
  • Black die bleeds and turns hand black (Still)
  • Need to soak before use since it is real wool

I use the variant sold by Griot's, works very well for the back side of the spokes and the barrels (at least when the wheel design allows it to fit in there).

Interesting about the dye issue, I haven't encountered that; zero pigment release from mine, at least not that I've noticed with gloves on.

I still do the faces primarily with BHBs though, most of my wheels have areas that require long bristles and/or swabs.

I usually soak mine a few minutes to soften it up am make it pliable before use. I found that after cleaning wheels my fingers and nails are stained black. I even tried letting it soak in water for a week (changing the water out every so often) to try and get rid of all of the leaching dye. But no luck so far.

Now I really wish they would simply make a "natural" mitt and let me get it dirty and black with use.

TroyScherer- Wonder if they've changed since my current one. Next time I get out a new one I'll see if there's any dye issue. I wouldn't like that, even though I always wear gloves when doing this stuff anyhow.

What about tossing it in the washing machine with some Woolite, on "hot"? Maybe that'd get it all out.

This is a great idea. I'm not sure why I didn't ever consider it. I'll just have to wait till the other half isn't home so if there is an issue I have time to clean it up.

I do believe they say DO NOT MACHINE WASH at the bottom of the product description.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they did, also wouldn't worry me a bit ^_^

Sorta like (regular) wash mitts of such material- I wash those in the machine on one of the more delicate cycles with no problems at all. Considering what a Wheel Mitt can go through in the course of its usual application, I don't think a gentle-cycle wash should be too abusive.

Heh heh, now report back if my oh-so-confident advice kills your Wheel Mitt!

LOVE IT! Used it today. I did rinse out it hot water before use. NO DYE ISSUES. Fits and cleans the wheels great. Think i like it better than a brush.
