LC Purple foam/Wool pads

Hey guys,

I just got an order in from Autopia with my purple wool/foam pads and am very anxious to use them. I was thinking about which of the cars I had coming up that I could use them on and something hit me. In the past, with CCS pads, I haven't ever worried about paint thickness. With these new pads (using a FLEX) is this something I need to start worrying about? To the point of buying a thickness gauge?

Though you will have a little more correction power, I don't think it's an absolute requirement. I do have one though and would recommend it, especially when working on other people's cars. You never know when you'll run across a thin paint job or area that was previously hacked up that may be thin.

How often do you plan on compounding or wet sanding? That is where you are removing a decent amount of clear coat each and need to consider paint thickness.

If you are like several posters on here who rarely compound due to using careful wash techniques and only lightly polish every year, paint thickness is not so much of a concern because light polishing removes such a tiny amount of clear.
