Ok, on the tib today I found a gash... well a scuff like someone took a heel of a black shoe and rubbed it along the fender.. its about 2 inches long and half an inch wide..

after an initial "NOOOOOOOOOO!" reaction, i experimented.. scratched lightly it with my fingernail, it came off!

so, I scratched some more.. and more.. I got maybe 3/4 off but the 1/4 is still on there, refuse to come off.. annoying me, no matter how much finger grease I put out. Its still there in little tiny dots and smears... I dont wanna really nail it for fear of scratching the clearcoat

Anyone have any tips on how to get rubber scuff off paint?

Try a clay bar and some lube. Apply medium to heavy pressure with the clay, and use plenty of lube. It should remove the mark fairly easy

I had orange marks on my door once when some moron hit my door with an orange cone, the clay took it off no problem.

Good Luck!!

thanks for the super speedy response!

ok I will try that..

now, from casual perusal of this forum, I gather that users have generally bad experiences with meiguiars clay bar?

I'll go with mothers then unless someone has specific issues with that.

Clay magic is nice too and comes package with a pretty good lube. Plus the continer is great.

There are others but you may want to find something at a local store for your first buy. Remember to practice on the mother in-laws car first. Use tons of liquid lube spray!

I report it is gone, that I cannot find where it was before!

I used isopropyl alchohol and a q-tip! took it off like you wouldn't believe! (someone on the forum somewhere when I searched for "scuff" said use it for doorsill and kickpanel scuffs, but not fender.. so i tried it gently)

I'll still get a clay bar, theres still some tar near the rear overhang..

thanks again for the help!

You dont need a clay bar to remove tar. You will have to get a bug and tar remover for that.

Also, if you had any wax or sealant on your car the isopropyl alchohol just removed it. You will need to rewax or reseal that pannel.

I mean tar marks that I've elbow greased already.. so they are tiny specks I can see but barely can feel on the paint.. if not smooth to the touch...

For the tar blobs I'll be using bug and tar remover.

Any good recommendation for both products?

Its my first car so im new to this detailing biz

If you want to start from the beginning!

Clay bars are very good at creating a glass-smooth finish at the beginning of a detail job. I would say clay. Mothers is fine.

First wash with Dawn. Then dry the car off well. Inspect the finish, and if there are swirls follow the archives for information on their removal. If not, clay carefully - don't drop the soap, er, clay! Make sure you work in managable sections and buff with a 100% cotton towel as you go. The car should look great right after claying.

Then apply your sealant of choice! No circles, linear motions will reduce the possibility of swirls. Good luck!

If it's from your shoe, and seems to come off but you want all of it off, I have had success with Goo Gone with scuff marks on plastic. I have also had success with Goo Gone with bumper sticker adhesive. If you have some try it. Otherwise you can buy a $2 mini bottle of the stuff.

Or try some WD-40, lighter fluid, rubbing alcohol, or even some AIO if you want to try something you already have first. hth-Steve

I use G27 on stuff like scuffs and marks like that. It has always worked out fine. It also helps out whatever scratches the thing that made the mark might have left behind.

Nevermind, found the answer. I should probably search next time before posting a thread.

Any question is ok.

With that said, I just ordered 12 cyan and 12 tangerine. :cornut:

I was wondering if the tangerine were compatible with 205 as far as finishing after cyan/105? Looks like this combo does just great! :Dancing Dot:

I have had really good success with the Tangerine/205 finishing down after Cyan/105. The Tangerine/205 finishes very optically clear for me. You can lighten up your pressure toward the end of the passes and go straight to LSP. (Not saying that's the only way to do it, but it has worked IME.

Any question is ok.

Cool......

I have a question for you specifically. You are more familiar with 105 and 205 than the average bear and my question is about 205 in general........

What polish is the most similar to 205 in your opinion.......?

I've got D151 and thought that it might be pretty close but, wanted to hear what you had to say.......

Thanks in advance.......Dave

Dave1, are you talking about with in the Meguiar's line or in other places?

I would say that of all the polishes out there, Menzerna PO203 (Power Finish) is the closest in cut and finishing abillity, although the way they work is completely different.

07 z-oh-6, your order is on it's way to you. Would like to hear about it. Also Justin when your ready call me with your order...............Angelo
