Layering Zaino

I just started using Zaino this past month and I am impressed with the results.

How often should/can I apply the Z5 and Z2. Is it fine to layer them over and over? My first coats of Zaino consisted of (2) coats of Z5 and (2) coats of Z2. I know its fine to apply a coat of Z2 after every other wash. But lets say a month from now I start noticing micro-scratches, can I layer a coat of Z5 over the Z2?

Yes, you can, but in spite of what they say, Z5 will not fill scratches (even micro scratches) for shucks.

Really??? Is there anything I can use instead of Z5 that will fill scratches, but still use the Z2?

Using a good glaze like Clearkote's Red Moose Machine Glaze or Menzerna's Final Touch Glaze prior to your first layer of Zaino is a really good way to fill in small scratches and hide minor surface defects. But, it must be applied prior to your first coat of Zaino, so in order to do this, you'd need to remove all the Zaino from your car, apply the glaze, then start over again with your Zaino layering. Yes, it sounds like (and really is), alot of work, but you'll be absolutely a-mazed how good glaze under the Zaino will look.

As you probably know, Zaino is very durable. It's also not really easy to remove. Most people around here would recommend an isopropyl alcohol wipedown (IPA) to remove the Zaino from your car if you decide to go the glaze route. If you do decide to use IPA to remove the Zaino, you'll need to go over the car several times with it; Zaino seems to really resist alcohol wipedowns surprisingly well.

Honestly, I'm really surprised that Sal Zaino still markets Z5 as a "filling" sealant.

If you aren't too concerned with how long your sealant will last, alot of people here have gotten really good results using Menzerna Final Touch Glaze, and then Menzerna Full Molecular Jacket sealant. It doesn't last as long as Zaino, but the pictures I've seen of this combo... wow. I've tried the FTG under Zaino before, and it looked stunning. I didn't leave it on the car long enough to see how durable it was.

If the blemishes are in the protective coat only (previously applied Z2 and Z5), Z5 will fill these defects by integrating into the establishes matrix of Z2/5. If the blemishes are actually in the finish, a full or spot repair with ZAIO will lay the best foundation for either Z2 or Z5. You can also use your favorite mild polish for spot repairs but must you use ZFX enabled Z2/5 to apply over these areas and remove any polishing oils (Isopropyl alcohol wipe down). If you are using CS, it too can be used as a foundation for repaired areas when not using ZAIO.

Z5 and Z2 are perfectly interchangeable and can be applied as often as you like.:woot2:

From my experience if a Z5 application doesn't hide/fill blemishes, it is time to re-prep. A glaze that will fill a defect is quite short term and not worth the effort of continually re-apply the glaze and topping with whatever LSP you decide to place on top every few weeks.

Be careful when washing and QD'ing only a clean vehicle. This will alleviate the need for frequent repairs. A nice aspect of ZAIO is that one can perform a cleansing/mild polishing session as frequently as necessary and just re-apply a coat or two of Z2/5 over the areas/vehicle with little extra effort to maintain a blemish-free and well protected finish.

No need to. Just wash surface as usually (vehicle shampoo i.e Z7 or your favorite).

ZAIO will remove any LSP from a finish. ZAIO cleanses as well as polishes. It will leave a perfect base for Z2, Z5 or CS (CS can be applied to any cured LSP without ZAIO prior treatment) along with any other type of waxes or sealants.
