Layering P21s

Just put 2nd layer on the wifes Mini and was wondering if I should continue with a 3rd? Klass AIO is the base after a 2 bucket wash, clay and P21s paint cleanser. I really can't tell much of a difference between the first and second layer.

The question is.......does P21s layer well? Thanks..

yes 21 will layer i personally apply layer after every wash but that is me. there is a school of thought that after 2 layers u get diminishing returns but if u have the time y not add another layer :-)

I guess because it's not doing anything so you're just wasting product. I've done numerous cars with p21s and I love it. However, I can NOT honestly say there is even a slight difference if a second "layer" is put on.

So then, am I to assume that P21s layers well but for no significant depth/shine value? Seems like a waste to me. Not like souveran, which has a definite and noticeable difference after two plus layers. Very subjective on LSPs

Yeah, Souveran *does* have a different look when layered. So do a few other LSPs, but [insert stuff about "it's all in the prep anyhow"] the effect is usually very subtle.

Perhaps it's not a complete waste to layer P21s as it should provide increased durability.

IIRC, and it's been a while... back when Nick T did the initial (and still IMO definitive) experiment/post about spitshining, he was using P21s. Again, this is from memory, but as I recall he *did* find appearance benefits. Might be worth searching out, I'd key on username = Nick T (MIA but not forgotten).

Thank you sir, I shall. BTW, I waited 24+ hours in-between applications and just felt it would be a waste of time if there were no "noticeable" difference. By spit shine, do you mean like you do on shoes?

When I decide to invest the time, I’ll garage the car for three to four weeks straight after a thorough ¾ step detail. Just after the detail, P21s goes on the car. Wait 4 to 5 days, and apply another coat. P21s completely ‘cures/hardens’ after several days. Repeating this step after another 4 to 5 days. I don’t use any sealants though, just P21s. I did go to a 4th and 5th coat on a former black P-Car over one winter and thought it even better than just 3 coats. (I’ll jack the car, pull the rims and do the front and backside of the rims at the same time too.)

Solid black and white cars seem to really look wet AND have depth to the paint that I (opinion) can’t get with any other technique. On my black metallic (red on the Merc & blue on the Honda) I love how it seems to amplify the ‘glitter’ of the metallic.

Hope this helps.

Yeah...thats what I do (somewhat) on the Saleen when I don't feel like driving it for a length of time. I used water on her only twice last year and layered souveran 6 or 7 times,I'm not sure....it may have been more. But the Mini is chili red w/wht top sunroof and doesn't seem to be "taking" multiple layers of P21s. Really don't want to use souveran, but we'll see. Per Accumulator, I searched for Nick T's original spit shining method and couldn't find, other than the revised version, but I think I get the gist. I'll give it a whirl.....What a great forum tho!! Super people on board here......

Pretty much. I don't have time to restate it here/now, and Nick T did a better job than I would anyhow. Seriously, track down his thread...it's worth reading.
