Hey what's up. I had a customer call me today and tell me that the guys at the hardware store spilt a can (1 Gallon) of white latex paint on her back seat and rear carpets. I have not yet come across this and am looking for some help:nixweiss

The car is a mazda protege with dark slade interior the paint was spilled today at 2:30 pm and the paint is white.

any tips would be really appreciated

Thanks,

Clint:shocked

Latex is a water based paint. I would try to vacuum up the spilled paint with a wet/dry vac, using a spray mist of water to keep it flowing. Then I would dump the latex paint solution ( it is water based, you should be able to flush it) then attack the carpeting and seats with a good uphiolstery shampoo with a with either a wet dry vac or an extractor.

PS: send the bill to the Hardware store!

I'm guessing this requires pulling the seats out...

I'm also guessing that this is beyond the scope of most detail shops... It's a restoration project!

From your description, this is not a job for most of us pros...

Also, if it is not clean by now... Good luck!

I'm assuming the entire gallon went into the car...

Me, I 'd pass.

Latex does harden into a solid so you may be able to remove some from the surface of the seats, but the paint that has been absorbed is beyond me. Good Luck!!:up

with acrylic paints on clothes (which is also water based), one would soak the clothes and the paint would come off. So i would suggest you soak the surface of the rear bench with shampoo. i am not sure if the soaking method would work with latex so i would suggest you actually test this out on an old t-shirt and actually stain it with a sample of latex paint and see if soaking works with latex also.

After going to inspect it the customer had taken out the seats and completly soaked them with the hose they were sopped. The rear carpets she had kept wet by misting it with water and she soaked up alot of the paint with old towels. The rear carpets look great after just a quick vac (that she did) but the underpadding is totally saturated. It is a real mess. I told the customer because it was the stores falt and they are willing to pay that i would get it all fixed with new parts from the dealer. I told her if she changed her mind to call me. If the the store does not pay she may call me ?????? They said they would though. The store owner called me and said he would pay me $1000.00 to get it out because he priced new interior and it's almost $5000.00 I don't want to take on the job because I know it will never be 100%. I told him I could get it around 70%. We'll see, I am just waiting for them to decide????
