lambskin mitts

Why are all my lambskin products falling apart? I allow them to air dry after rinse and shaking out excess. Do they just not last more than 15 to 20 washes?

Are you referring to a generic wool wash mitts or a specific brand?

I have a couple of wool wash mitts I've purchased locally and they're still going strong after several years. As long as the products you're using are suitable for automotive washing you shouldn't have any issues.

Are these all one brand?
Were they bought at the same time? If so they may be a bad or defective lot..

I think they are mothers brand, I bought 3 back in Dec of last year. All are falling to pieces. I just got a wookies fist and don't want to ruin it.

I think you are just coming to the same realization I came to years ago. The lambskin mitt for washing is just one of the lesser choices for wash media. Not at all robust, easily damaged and soiled and thus not a good value. I suggest trying some of the different options for your wash media.

I use my P&S mitt weekly to wash my cars and are still going strong for over 9 months now. There are no signs of it deteriorating.

In re-reading my post I failed to mention something rather important...

While my wool mitts have served me well they're now dedicated to cleaning wheels, bumpers, and lower extremities of the vehicle.

Last summer I picked up 2 of these and found I like them much better.

The Gold Plush Micro-Chenille mitt is super sort and hold a lot of soap and water. These are made of some sort of microfiber material and these little fingers do a great job at cleaning and holding on to dirt and grime until rinsing.

I have a few different wash mitts. For regular DD cars I use a Micro-Chenille mitt. For my black vehicle and high end vehicles I use the Dodo Juice Supernatural Wash Mitt "Wookie's Fist".

My Wookie's Fist is 3 years old and is good as new. I believe the "trick" to keeping it good is for it to dry properly. It is natural skin and can last a lifetime or can rot easily if not maintained.

I know that how you dry a "natural" wash mitt is very important.

But I have found that the way you begin to use the mitt is even more important.
I have found that if you drop your mitt into the wash solution and just start using them they will shed much faster and start to come apart.

If you start our by soaking your wash mitt for 5-15 minutes before using it then the "skin" is more pliable and thus doesn't break or crack. This makes the mitt more usable and flexible. I usually start by soaking my wash mitt and then drag out all of my stuff and get my buckets ready.

I often use Race Glaze mitts and they seem to be holding up well. The only issue they are color dyed and the darker ones bleed for a few washes.

Yeah I've had problems with lambskin mitts falling apart on me, plus to me they are too soft. I feel like they just glide over the dirt. I mostly stick to microfiber mitts, but if you do have a car that has light dirt and dust lambskin is perfect.

When I was looking at that style of mitt of the website it looks like they offer it in gold, purple and gray. I'm assuming the microfiber matches the towels that are the same color? Any difference between the 3?
