Keyed and pissed

hey guys. just got my brand new honda accord 2008 keyed by some a--hole. Not even 2 months old yet. the two marks are very thin and are 2-3inchs long each. It's right on the hood for the world to see.:angry

I have some touch up paint from the dealer but I am afraid it will not blend in well. I am not skilled at any of the crazy polishing techniques I have seen here. Any suggestion?

I thought I get some feedback and maybe a try before I give up and shell out my life savings.

Thanks guys!

Something tells me your from California... Sorry to hear that to the new Accords. They look great too.

I hate people who key cars. They deserve more hard time than sex-offenders.

I'm sorry your nice new accord just got abused. Some people are such A holes for no reason and no gain at all.

If you don't know what you are doing and haven't done repairs before, it might be wise to err to the side of caution and get advice from a pro :(

Did you park in two spaces? It seems people often get their cars keyed for doing this here in southern california. Is it wrong? Yes. Is it wrong to take up two spaces in a crowded parking lot? Yes. I'm not one to judge though.

I am from NYC, didnt park in 2 spots. Any one know a good pro around here?. NYC is shady. I need a place I trust so they dont steal my parts.

That sucks. If your car is dirty enough and gray, along with being "not standing out", its pretty much under the radar for being keyed just because some hood rat is jealous of it.

Please don't tell me you street park your car. If so, uhm, these scratches will not be the last of a laundry list of issues with NYC street parked cars. I am fortunate enough to have my own driveway to park my car in.

Sorry about your car Shadow. Whether or not you can fix it all depends on how deep the marks are (if you fingernail catches on it, it's probably through the clear coat and cannot be fixed without a respray).

If it's not too deep you could try something like Meguiars or Mothers Scratch removers to do an easy fix. They're about $10 and you can find them pretty much anywhere.

Get a soft cloth and a $3 applicator pad, clean and wipe down the hood in a well lit area, and rub the cream/polish on the scratches with some solid pressure for about a minute then wipe it off with the cloth and check it. If the scratch gets better but isn't gone do it again with lighter pressure about 3-4 more times.

This may not completely remove the scratches, but it should at least "round off" the edges and make them appear less obvious. When you're done put a little sealant or wax on to protect your paint.

Beyond this you'll either need a pro detailer or some pretty expensive equipment/chemicals, so it's at least worth a shot.

P.S. I hope they catch the guy who did this and feed him to a pack of wild coyotes...

I think you should get out of Manhattan, maybe a good place can be found in Central or Southern NJ. Or maybe Long Island. I lived in Brooklyn for first 20 years of my life, I just visit now.......sorry to hear about he car......hopefully you can find a real professional who will work with you in a somewhat honest manner in that area.

Has anyone ever tried filling in the scratches with touch up paint then wet-sanding the touch up paint so its the same level as the surrounding paint?

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, Shadow. I've tried the touch-up route. I did several scratches on an '05 work truck... looks like crap. I simply wanted to prevent rust. I would not recommend it on your new Accord.

If your damage is bad enough to require paint, my advice is DO NOT simply buy one of the touch-up paint tubes at an auto parts store. They "blob" badly.

This guy is an Autopia member... Applied Colors :: Home Maybe he can recommend someone in your area.

Here's another paint touch-up site that I've recently discovered... Automotivetouchup.com Touch Up Paint, Aerosol Spray Paint and Paint Touch Up Accessories

Good luck! Let us know how it works out.

Is this redundant? Yes.
