Katrina

This mornings newspaper pictures are totally unimaginable.

I attempted to call some people in LA. and MS. whom Ive had dealings with in the past several yrs, I gave up after 12 unsuccessful attempts, all lines were tied up or just unavailable.....

My hopes, thoughts and prayers go to all those suffering.......

Patrick, from what I have heard on the news, all the phone service(cell included) is down. That entire region is in my prayers. I needed to stop asking for stuff all the time anyway.:)

On a side note, I wonder how many countries will come to our aid??

Patrick: I managed to get through to 2 of my customers surrounding N.O. (Ascension Parish and St. James Parish Sheriff's...they are my customers). They didn't get much damage except loss of power from trees down. New Orleans is a gigantic mess! I can't get through to their PD (another customer), but managed to link up with them before the storm and get a data set in case something happened (and it did).

Tough situation down there...they are great folks and it will be a long time re-building that area.

I got the saddest email yesterday from a customer in MS. He said that he was sorry he had to cancel his recent order because he did not know if he had a home or car to go back to. Needless to say it was crushing news to hear. When he settles in, he has a free polisher kit waiting for him from Autopia.

My prayers are with my own family in LA and everyone in LA and MS affected by this terrible storm.

Definately not a good place to be right now. All we can do is pray for everyone there. I know I will be.

On another board, those of us with extra room and in reasonable driving distance of the gulf coast areas affected have offered it up for members in need of a place to stay.

The devastation is unimaginable.

I live in Shreveport and go to the the shelters every day after school. It truely is unbelievable what some of these people are going through. Our supervisor for Red Cross Club at our school is asking no just for food and water but underwear and deodorant aswell as school supplies. We have several students transfering into our school for the next few months and they have nothing.

I work in the direct response marketing field (what the rest of you would call junk mail) and we mail millions of pieces every day for our clients. We got word earlier today from the US Postal Service that the Post Office will not even accept mail for entry into the system that is headed to the seven Zip Codes in and around New Orleans due to severe damage to their own facilities. They are taking First Class mail only - so this means we need to literally pull out all the mail we are producing destined for those Zip Codes. This is unprecedented - even last year when Florida got hit with four hurricanes in succession the P.O. did not have to resort to these measures.

Rain, sleet, snow and dark of night may be no problem but it appears they've met their match in Katrina.

To me the most shocking part of it all is that they can't even begin clean up and rebuilding until they can dry New Orleans out, and that could take a month or more. I know many parts of Florida are still a long way from being rebuilt even a year later - I can't imagine how long this will take.

The looters are bad enough, but I saw some poor guy interviewed on the news telling about the two guys who approached him as he sat on his front porch. They brandished a large machette and demanded this guy's truck or they'd kill him!!
