K&N Air Filters

For those of you out there that need a K&N air filter and never bought one because of the price...well Amazon just started carrying them and mine was half of what local parts stores carry it for. Go to K&Nfilter.com...Get the part number for your car...Go to amazon and type it in. The part number will have a dash in it (xx-xxxx). Omit the dash when putting it Amazon search. Hope this saves some of you some $$$$$.

They are not very highly thought of on Bobistheoilguy.com. These guys are right into fluids and filters like DC is into detailing.

I've always used K&N in all my cars. The performance increase is noticible. Also they give me 1-2 miles per gallon better gas mileage (hiway)... Clean them every 6,000 miles.

I've always hated K&N. After reading several air filter test I ditched my K&N for an oil-less Apexi cone filter and could not of been happier. No oil, no mess, better filtration, and better air flow.

K&N Air Filters were on my motorcycles and vehicles for years until I read several reports about their lack of filtration. Not from one source, but from several. An OEM filter is my choice at this time.

FWIW, I was never able to feel any performance improvement that I would attribute to the K&N. Any increase in performance was probably two things. Doing away with a restrictive air-box and my imagination. You don't want to admit to yourself that all the work and expense didn't do something.
I also didn't notice any mileage improvement.
This was on normally aspirated, turbo-charged, and super-charged motors.
They may be great for some, but I wasn't impressed.

Agreed, Dyno proven results that I have witnessed, anyways everyone to there own, I use K&N's in all my autos, motorcycles, ATV's....and when it comes to filtration an ATV will put it to the test as I live in a desert, but anyways NO less engine life compared to my dads with a factory everything.

I was told by Ford that using a K&N on my 2004 would void any warranty problems related to using this filter....They say the oil migrates to the MAF sensor then coats the wire elements causing problems...Plus after reading Independent tests ..they say the gauze does not filter that good...people doing UOA with a K&N show high rates of silicates....meaning road dust....

k&n filters are not my personal choice. After trying them
out for a little while, I found that they did increase flow a little,
but to get that increase meant sacrificing good filtration. So
for me, it's either a paper filter, or a foam filter.

I have read alot on the foam filter by True-Flow...They have a video on their site showing the filtration effectiveness between foam ,paper. and gauze...

It is interesting...plus they say it will not void the warranty on the vehicle...

www.trueflow.com alot of the cars at the speedway near me run these also...

I've had K&N's before and while I felt that they did add more air flow, it was very short lived because they required frequent cleaning
In short they did trap more filth, but that only meant that they clogged up faster taking away whatever gains I was getting.

So now I just stick with OEM

K&N filters do increase flow at the expense of filtration. I would stick with a good quality paper filter if just going for a stock replacement.

I like their oil filters though. Built like a tank, easy to remove because of the 1 inch bolt head welded to the top of the filter, and my car seems to run much smoother with it than it did with a Mobil 1 filter.

We did a big test of all the filters we could get our hands on. We based our test on turbo charged diesel truck. And K&N IIRC let in the most dirt, but had the highest flow. OEM had by far the best filtration and had plenty of flow for a stock truck. The AFE GP7 was the best reusable filter. We didn't test any Fram filter there was a conflict of interest.

It has been around a year since the test and the guy that made this happen has been contacted by K&N. They offered him a paid trip to there HQ/R&D center, we don't know if there going to whack him or got something new to show him.

Here is a link to the results

Actually I'm not. K@N oil filters are high flow filters and Mobil 1 filters are not. The car I put the K@N on has a very high strung engine that red lines at 8000 rpm. I definitely noticed it ran smoother with the K@N filter. It wasn't something I was looking for or expecting. I purchased the K@N because they don't sell Mobil 1 filters in Canada and I was due for an oil change and didn't feel like taking a trip to the U.S. just for a Mobil 1 filter.
