Just used RB for first time...

Okay, so I used my Rotary for the first time this weekend. I just bought a brand new F150 that had the dealer installed swirls, but they honestly were not bad at all.

So here was my process:

Washed with Foam Gun using Z7.

Clay Barred

Then I grabbed a white polishing pad, gave a slight spray of Z6 on it, then applied four dime sized drops of ZPC.

I spread it on setting 3 and worked it in on setting 6.

Then I applied 2 coats of Z2 and finished it off with some Z8.

It came out really well, but on the door there is some holograms. Extremely hard to see, couldn't even get it to show up in pictures, but I can see one faintly. Any suggestions to as what I may have done wrong because the fender and most of the door is perfect. Thanks!

Could've have hit a part of the paint that didn't have a layer of product on it. Do you could've have dry buffed. Umm, moving the polisher fast I think could cause holograms I suppose.

I don't what else it could be from.

I'm pretty much a noob and don't have a rotary so take this FWIW. Using a PC to spread at 3 and work at 6 makes sense to me. But with most rotaries at speed 3 and 6 does that not mean 1500 and 3000 rpm as 1 speed division is 500 rpm?? Like I said maybe I'm out to lunch but that was the first thing that came to mind.

Z-PC is VERY thin. I really like it, it finishes beautifully and basically disappears, but I use it with a black pad, not a white one. I think a white pad is too coarse for Z-PC, I would switch to a black pad and try again.

I would also stick with slow speeds so it doesn't dry fast, I think 1500 on a rotary is way too fast for Z-PC. I can't see myself going over about 700 with it, seems slow I know, but it would let it work for a lot longer.

Matt, Glad to see that you are catching the bug. If I remember right you where going to order a porter cable polisher like this:

Is that what you have?

If so it would be very hard to induce holograms with a PC.

Maybe they where left over from the dealer prep and you might not have got them worked all the way out.

You can try going over the area again, take the truck out into the sun to inspect your work prior to applying Z2pro.
