Just used 3M Heavy Cut to remove marring

I now have some very fine swirling. I followed with 3M Perfect-It II (Fine Cut) then Meg Professional SMR (#9). Did okay. Will 3M SMR do a better job? Fareacla Fine Cut?

Need advice. TIA

I have found the best results after using heavy duty cut , go to 3m medium and then fine and follow with smr , it's alot of steps put it gives the best finish.

First time using such a abrasive product. Have a little time this weekend and want to eliminate some deeper surface marring. Will run out now and get some 3M medium cut and 3M SMR for dark colors.

Thanks again detailbarn for the rapid response. :bow :wavey

no problem , hope everything works out for you. I use the heavy cut all the time , it's pretty easy to use except for the dust put I can deal with it. If you have it use a orange power pad for the smr it helps clean everything up. For a step after you're all done polishing take a black pad and you favorite qd and buff out the surface it really brings out all that shine that was lost in buffing.

Thanks again detailbarn, :bow

I have always been frighten to use beyond a Fine Cut on my paint. When I used the Heavy Cut this morning I went pale and :scared after viewing the dulled swirled but marr-less finish. I progressed up with what I had and my fears were relieved. I figure there was at least one or two more progressive steps that would truely eliminate the swirls completely.

Is there any advantage to using a Polish Meg #2) after SMR or just move on to paint cleanser ( P21S or 3M IHG) prior to adding protection ( Poorboy's EX x 2 topped with Souveran x 2)?

TIA Edwin

personally I tend to go right to the paint cleaser (s100) it's going to be a personal choice , try a small spot and see what you like. Question for you how do you like poorboys ex , I just got a sample and want to try it this week , any tips you can give. thanks:xyxthumbs

Just completed my test fender. Using your advice I:

Followed Heavy Cut with, Light Cut ( could not find any Medium Cut), followed by SMR ( 3M Perfect-It-III , I got shop price for quart - $22), followed with Quick Shine QD, followed with Meg #9 (SMR w fillers) , than P21S GEPC, than finished gloss / surface marring removal and filling with Mother's Sealer and Glaze. I did not clay because this task was done about 1 month ago and the car has been driven less than 200 miles). The first coat of EX is drying now.

Thanks for the encouragement, advice and tips detailbarn.:bow I guess I have graduated to the next level of detailing ( surface appears flawless at all angles and under extreme (300 watt) indoor lighting ):bounce

The only tips I have about EX is to use a small-cell type sponge ( the stuffing of an old terry applicator) or others have had success using a slightly water moistened MF applicator. I allow EX to dry at least 30 minutes or longer ( no change in ease of removal), wait at least 24 hrs for next application and enjoy.

:wavey

welcome to the next level!:D

Great choice for the QD that's what I use too.

Once you get the hang of it and the confidence in yourself it's not that hard to really get into and take your car's finish to the next level.

In your opion how slick is ex compared to s100 and zaino?

I would say that EX is just slightly less slick than Zaino ( if Zaino's a 9 EX is an 8) and slightly slicker than P21S/S100 ( a 7). What I really like about EX is it's versatility, along with its appearance and ease of use. Look at what I am prepping with today and EX allows me to use any type of QD including my second favorite - Z6 ( Quick Shine and Mother's tied for first). I have some Poorboy's QD+ coming this week :bounce and can not wait to try.:wavey

By the way detailbarn, I took the car outside and I could not believe the finish. :shocked I could still see spiderwebbing under the 300 watt light but outside the surfaces are flawless. Next test - Gas station lighting at midnight if I can stay awake that late at my age ;).

I just got and tried poor boys spray and wipe and it's on my top list of qd's it has a unique cleaning ability that other qd's do not. I'm not sure but it feels like it has soap in it which leaves no film but does really well at removing road film.

Thanks for the imput on ex

catch ya later
