Just not cutting it...

...yes, pun intended. Anyways, I can't seem to get the spiderwebbing/scratches out of my paint. I'm using a Neiko rotary (got it off of ebay for cheap), and I tried using a twisted wool pad, a blended wool polishing pad, and a white foam polishing pad. For the products I use Wizard's TurboCut (1000 grit compound) and CarBrite's Crystal (a VERY light polish). The paint ends up nice and glossy, but the webbing is ALWAYS there.

It's a black 02 Chevy Impala...I don't know if the clearcoat is just way too hard or what, but whenever I cut with the wool and compound, it just leaves buffer marks that I have to take out, but it leaves the scratches.

Has the car been repainted? It is possible you are dealing with a problem under the clear coat, especially if a rotary, heavy compound and twisted wool aren't cutting it.

It's still the factory paint, it's not in THAT bad condition save for the cobwebs, which is bugging me. I'm pretty sure that it's just not taking out the webs, and not making new ones. I was thinking of maybe trying foam cutting pads. When I was using the polishing pad, I was getting the results I was expecting from it (taking out the buffer marks). What pad would you guy recommend: cutting or light cutting?

Unfortunately I don't have pics. I'd take some but I got frusterated earlier and it has some wheel marks that I didn't bother to take out...just called it a day.

When using a wool pad do not use a coarse compound unless you are a pro. It will make a mess and you could cause some damage. If you want to use wool, wash the wool pad completely out and use a very mild polish. I have not used the wizards polish and I do not know how it is and how it works.

Make sure you wash the pad of all the grit before trying this. One polished out, then use a foam polish pad with a finish polish.

These are only basics and would need pics to understand what the problem is. Hope this helps.

Thanks

I was thinking...maybe the speed's too low?

The polisher I have doesn't show what speed your setting is, just 1-6. The range is 1000-3000, so I know setting 1 is 1000 rpm, I usually have it set between 1 and 2. I don't know what exact rpm that would be...do you think I should bump it up to 3 for cutting?

PS I still don't have any pics yet, and I did order a foam cutting and a light cutting pad...I'm going to try those when they come in. I'll let you all know how it turns out. Any input on the speed would be appreciated though until then. Thanks guys.
