Just put a deposit/down payment on a new 2003 Mercedes-Benz C320 4matic, Black exterior  (I know I couldn't help myself) and java(tan) leather interior. The car is at the port and is coming in this week. I told them to keep the plastic on or else i will refuse delivery. However my dillema is I want the clear bra film but I don't know what brand to get. The dealer i am buying it from offers "Safegard" which is a clear film (never heard of the company). I have also seen 3M Scotchcal at many other dealerships and hear a lot about X-pel online. What film is the best to get (wont peel or yellow over time) and is the most transparent?

Ferrari uses a brand called venture. There was a side by side comparison with 3m on my350z.com I believe. Very intriguing results.

BradB used X-Pel on his Porsche and he said it is completely invisible at 2 feet away. I havent seen an example on a black car though, so I dont know if that would make any difference....? :nixweiss

Anyway, nice choice in cars, and I havent seen much of you around here lately Ali... where you been?

Boy, I must have really been living under a rock; last I heard you were a starving college student!

What's your secret for finding the scratch to plunk down for a $45,000 2003 C320 4Matic w/leather?

Should I assume that by your recent windfall, that you will no longer be requesting that I send free products for you to try, or has bret become your new sugar daddy? Bret - did you write Al a check for 1 new Mercedes?

:D :D :D :D :D

Sorry, couldn't resist breakin' your balz a bit... :D

Well, it sure ain't me paying for that new Mercedes. I don't know either how a college kid can afford a new C class, an ML, and the IS300.

Al, are you in involved in some business scheme we don't about? ;) ;)

All clear bras that I know of use the 3M Scotchcal film. The only difference between them is in the area they cover. That is the difference to look for as it can vary quite a bit. On my car, I found as much as a 4" difference in the height of the hood piece. This explains why some are cheaper I would think. That said, and all other things being equal, application at the dealer obviously is the best choice as it protects the car from the minute (almost) it hits the streets. I have heard a few stories about people getting their paint chipped on the way to the xpel installer :(

Best of luck to you

LOL! Steve and bret, man you guys are hilarious. I never said the car was MINE.;) Only car owned by me is the IS300, the rest is family cars that I have full access to. So anyway... about the clear film. The venture film is the one offered by the dealership we are purchasing the vehicle from. 3M Scotchcal is offered by another local mercedes dealer.

LOL, Steve and Bret... you guys are hillarious. Congrats, Ali, on your family's C320. So now you have two black Mercedeses to detail!

;)

The "major" brands such as Invincishield, Xpel, etc, use 3M Scotchcal film. It is the premier product. It is guaranteed not to become brittle, peel and is optically clear even over time. If you look closely at the film however against certain light colored paints you can see that it has a yellowish tint. This is not the film but the adhesive. This is unavoidable but 3M is working on new technology.

The difference in the price of the brands/kits is marketing and the complexity of the cuts in the kits. The quality of the film is the same.

Here is a picture comparing a 3m bra with a venture bra. On your right is the 3m.

When I interviewed the folks from DynaShield and InvincaShield, they both concluded (as Brad B notes) that all of the clear bras are the same material (3M)...and, they all only guarantee their product for 5 years or less...

That said, I have some InvincaShield on the front of the 337 - dang stones are murder on the paint. I say find a local installer who you trust, and go with that product. Should be a-ok.
