Just a freaking great damn day!

Got the Hang of it Now
oK, ITS 7:30am and I am sitting in traffice at a major intersection in Denham Springs,LA with Bailey (my daughter) in the back seat. The light turns green and WHAM, someone slams into the back of me in a 1983 Ford F-100. Smashes my bumper all up basically and then I get a citation for not having "current" proof of insurance. Well, I had a temporary proof of insurance (because the car is brand new and the policy was changed) that expired on the 29th of July, which is also my insurance renewal date in which I did renew on the 29th. The problem is I have yet to recieve a current proof of insurance from my insurance company via the mail, so I get penilazed for it.

If that isnt enough, while I am filling out the police report my mortgage lending company calls me up to tell me that we cannot close on Monday because Lindsey's (my wife) school loans are not in deferment yet. We had to wait around for 2 freaking weeks for her employer to give us the records of her income so that we could mail it off to Sallie Mae for deferment. Now, its not going to be processed in time for us to close on Monday, the 15th of August. Yes, we have already signed the lease cancellation for our apartment and MUST be out be August 31st, in which our mortgage company says is highly unlikely we will be able to close before then! Because of this, we will definatly lose our $500 deposit that was paid to the builder. If we do not close on the scheduled closing date, we lose the deposit and the house goes back up for sale! Unfortuantly this is what's happening as we speak.

:( :( :(

Sorry to hear about this whole mess. I hope it works out for you. So you got penalized for something that the insurance company hasnt gotten to you yet?

Greg

Wow! and you just detailed it too. It's amazing how life varies from one day to the next. One minute everything is golden and the next minute, the sh** hits the fan! Sorry about your problems but there has to be a silver lining somewhere.

thanks alot guys for the encouragement. yes, i did get penalized for something that is completely out of my hands. im working on getting a letter from my insurance company that states this incident and hopefully this can be cleared up before court on October 31st. I guess the only silver linig behind all this is that I will get a new bumper which keeps me from having to remove all the wax to adhere my new bumper gaurd. Thats one positive thing that has come from this. :D

perhaps you can offer the builder of your house a little more money to give you a little more time! Stuff happens its not like you woke up this morning and said..."How can I screw this day up" Im sure that everything will work out!

Not to diminish the anquish and anxiety that you are feeling, but everything you noted (except of course the accident itself) should be able to be handled with a couple of telephone calls and/or faxes. I would be surprised (but then I've been that before) if the insurance thing certainly should require a court date to resolve. You might have to go down to the court's admin office and show proof of insurance, but with the court dockets packed I don't think they would waste your time or theirs for this item. This does prove as a reminder to us all that we need to be proactive in maintaining the appropriate documentation.

Though I've only been involved in a few real estate transactions, I don't quite understand how this important detail of the transaction could have slipped though the cracks at this late date without your (and your realtor's)knowledge. If you are certain all of your financials are in order, then go to the builder and explain the situation. They have already "sold" this house once. They don't need or want the uncertainty of having to "list" this house for sale again. If they believe that the deal will go through, it won't be worth $500 to nix this deal and hope for another.

Ouch, touh day!

Don't sweat the insurance. Get a letter or just stop by your company office and have them print up your current proof. Mail the ticket to the courthouse or stop on down and show them that you did in fact have proof at the time of the accident. The ticket will be taken care of. Trust me, I know the job.

Murphy definately hit you with the law on the closing! I would try and meet your builder in person. They hear sob stories all the time but the ones I've talked to would give you another week no problem. Good luck!

Mike
