Jets 'n' Vettes...

Today we went to the Annual "Wings Over Whiteman" Airshow/Carshow at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Missouri.

Of the 200 cars, around 150 were Corvettes, hence the name I gave this thread!

It was limited to the first 200 cars to pre-register... each car, driver, passenger had to be pre-qualified for security reasons. We had to arrive before 8AM to check in and go through security checks, etc.

We were escorted in "parade style" onto the Flightline right there with the jets! Pretty sweet!

There were around 100,000 people in attendance.

Weather conditions... Morning 65 degrees cloudy, Afternoon 88 degrees sunny, 40mph south wind.

Lots of pictures!

Sorry, I just didn't get any good aerial shots.

Looked like a great event! +1 on sharing those with us - thanks. Lots of pics of my personal favorite F-16.

I'm guessing 'ole USA 82 had the best shine.

Thanks for an interesting post (wasn't the Corvette named after an American fighter plane?) Ex RAF so I'm better at UK planes, although I've flown NAVAIR F-16's

Thanks Bill for sharing these great pictures from the Air show and the Car show. Those F16's are from Hill AFB in Utah I think and these are c/d models. It beings back memories, Thanks Bill:D

It's fun to admire those machines up close.

I have always been amazed with those jets and choppers.
Thanks for sharing great pictures.

The Corvette was named by Myron Scott (died in 1998). Myron worked for GM for over 30 years.

Here's an excerpt from his obituary:

In 1953, Chevrolet introduced an all-new fiberglass sports car, and there was much indecision about a name. Many hundreds were rejected. Scott submitted "Corvette" because he said "it began with a `C'...rolled well off the tongue...and reflected the excitement of a fast World War II war ship named Corvette."
:D

Wow GREAT pictures. When I was a kid I wanted to be a fighter pilot.

F15's, F16's (my favorite and STILL awesome) B2's, you got them all!

Simply amazing pictures and GREAT cars as well. Cool cool event!

Great pics - Thanks much. I see an occasional B2 flying over the house at night. The come in low when they are on the way home to Whiteman. Seeing one in the night sky is downright creepy - like a giant bat-plane. The sound is unmistakeable.

The B1 is definitely more "fighter-like" in it's profile and in flight, but the B2 in flight is a sight to behold!!!

It is the baddest of the bad.

If I'm the enemy... I don't want to see any of those coming over the trees.....:scared::scared::scared:
