Jaguar Vanden Plas . . . I detailed one too!

Well, I don't normally do paying details but I've been out of work since August. So, I have plenty of time on my hands and not much to do. If someone asks then I do it.

The owner of this car is a friend of my mother's. The car spends part of the year in FL and part in MA. On the way up from FL this year the shipping company caused the driver's side floor matt to mysteriously disappear. Apparently, the matts are $400 a set. Ouch! Anyway, here's the detail (sorry no befores). . .

Well, I was only contracted to do a wash & wax on this car. But since the owner is a friend I also did a complete interior detail, used cleaner wax (currently out of polish :D ), and then added a second coat of pure carnauba. The car was heavily cob webbed when I got it and the cleaner wax did a great job either hiding or removing the swirls. My bet is hiding.

Exterior:
Wash (Zymol Clear), clay, Megs #6 cleaner wax, second coat was P21S.
Wheels cleaned with Megs Wheel Brightener, wells & tires cleaned with Megs Safe D-Greaser, wells dressed with Griot's Undercarriage spray, and tires dressed with Megs Endurance High Gloss Gel.

Interior:
Everything cleaned with Megs APC and Magic Eraser, carpets cleaned with Folex, leather conditioned w/ Lexol, and plastic/vinyl dressed with PB's NL. All the wood trim got some cleaner wax as well.

Engine:
Cleaned w/ Megs Safe D-Greaser and dressed with CD2

You can see even after the detail there is still cob webbing in the paint, but it's markedly improved.

and still reflective . . .

That Vanden Plas is one BIG sedan though . . . and it was like 100* here too! I drank almost 2 gallons of Gatorade during the detail.

Sorry to hear your out of work. Look at it this way you just got paid doing something you enjoy. megs #6 did a nice job cleaning up the paint the reflection shot looks flawless.

Was she happy with your work?

dang it greg this is twice you beet me to a post. don't you have school in the am go to bed now (i type two slow) ;)

Beautiful looking vehicle! The engine is cleaner than my kitchen. I love to see people clean their engines. It would seem that the majority of the time would have been spent on the wheels. A lot of surfaces to go in, around and thru. The overall look is great for what I would consider a classy vehicle.

Looking good.

The interior looks excellent!

How do you like Meg's degreaser? It looks like it did a nice job on the engine bay.

It's no fun working in 100+ weather. Stay in the shade today :)

Nice work! I agree with the other posters about being careful in the heat. Heat stroke can kill. make sure to stay hydrated and wear a hat and stay in shade as much as you can if you're going to be working out in the sun. Not to sound like your mom or anything it's just I would hate for anything bad to happen to a fellow detailer. :)

Not bad for just a quick wax! I love the customers reactionj when you do a little more then they wanted ot pay for! They get so excited!

As I said in Greg's Vanden Plas thread, I am a big fan of all the Megs Detailer Line products. I've been using the Safe D-Greaser on all my details since the day I first bought it. It does a great job cleaning engine bays (the Jag's was totally brown before hand), wheel wells, and tires. It gets its cleaning power from surfactants (soap) so it's less harmful to rubber/plastic than other degreasers which are solvent based. Plus like a lot of the Detailer Line products it comes in a concentrated gallon. So, it's very economical and you can dilute to different strengths.

Also, even though I've had it a while I only just started using Megs APC on the interior. WOW! This stuff is fantastic. Ground in dirt just seems to melt off leather, vinyl, and plastic. I haven't tried it on carpet yet, but I've heard it works well on that too.

Even though I wasn't happy with the job, because I knew the cob webbing had mostly been covered up, she was ecstatic. She pulled up in the car and her jaw dropped. My customers always seem to say the exact same thing every time . . .

"OMG!! My car has never been this shiney!!"
"I just want to put it in the garage and never drive it again!!"
