IVECO in the US?

Using a PC and CMA white pad, I did not like the results I got , its good but I can get better, there are still some swirls there when the sun hits it. Here is my question: Should I go to the next abrasive 3M product or should I change pads to the CMA yellow then try again?

If 3M SMR doesn't remove the scratches with the yellow cutting pad, then step up to some Finesse-It. But first remember that abrasives work by removing paint to level the surface. The more you use a certain abrasive, the more swirls it will remove.

I'd say try SMR with the PC and cutting pad a few times before using something stronger. I'd say the next step is 3M Rubbing Compound or Eagle One Scratch remover, but use cautiously only on very deep scratches.

Klasse AIO and Pinnacle PCL are not a "step-up" as they contain very, very mild abrasives if there are any. SG contains no cleaning power... but it works well to fill in swirls.

To get rid of swirls and light scratchs you want to start with the mildest abrasive. Only if the mildest doesn't work will you need to go a step more abrasive.

Lighting can make a HUGE difference in what you can see. Try to work under flourescent or halogen lights. That way if your lighting is constant you will be able to make a more scientific comparison of different products.

When you get to a level of product that removes the scratchs then use that product followed by the next mildest and the next mildest. For example if you had to start at the bottom of the list of products in this post, you would then work your way up to the top, before waxing or sealing the finish.

I like 3M Products for tasks like this because they have a graduated scale of abrasive products which will allow you to choose the right product for the job. The first item the SMR is not classified as a rubbing compound because it is so fine and it has the added benefit of leaving a very smooth glazed looking surface.

From mild to abrasive here's a list of 3M's products.

Had a look at the UK portion of the 3M site...

They have the Finesse-It and Perfect-It range of products, but the products themselves are given slightly different names.

Think I've found the SMR though - but here it is called Imperial Hand Glaze...

Description is:

Imperialâ„¢ Hand Glaze contains no silicone/wax and achieves a full, deep shine and high gloss on all colours, especially dark colours. Ideal for filling swirl marks and compounding scratches on both cellulose and 2-pack paints. Supplied as a 1 litre bottle with flip-top pourer to save wastage. Easy and fast to apply using a 3Mâ„¢ Scotch-Briteâ„¢ High Performance Cloth.

Does this sound like the same product?

Hey Andy IHG is a not the same as SMR. IHG does not have any abrasives in it.

Drat...

Maybe we don't have it over here then... :(

The UK site is structured differently to the US one, and has no car care section. There is an "Abrasives" section under 'Automotive'...

Any of these sound similar?

On my way up I-26 in SC yesterday, I passed by an IVECO small box truck, from the "DAILY" series? And it had Italian registration plates (I), front and rear. I would imagine it is a company delivering parts/supplies from Charleston to Greenville area to the auto suppliers, but I could be wrong, just a guess.

Just something you don't see everyday...
