Planning a 4 day road trip. This trip is an anu summer tradition for us. Usually it`s a family trip but this year my oldest started his real job and does not have time off yet. My wife is opting out this year to have a girls weekend so it`s me and my 18 year old and no particular direction in mind.

Looking for a driving destination 5-7 hours max from NYC. Plan on driving and stoping along the way staying where we are when we`re ready. It`s going to be more about the journey, and time together than the where we are headed. I do want to find at least one cool destination for the trip plus so stuff along the way.

I`d like some ideas.

My son doesn`t understand why we can drive straight through to Yellowstone look around take a nap and head home ? Or go to Texas get some real BBQ and them head home. I said this is real life not smokey and the Bandit. It`s good to be young.

Planning on staying in hotels / motels / Air BNBs but taking a tent just in case. Taking a very, on road car so any off roading adventures or bad pot hole cities are out. :). I would not mind heading to a driving school. As long as they let my son participate.
Not racing school but driving school teaching the finer points.

My short list of destinations :

Acadia national park by way of Newport RI. And all point I between.

Shenendoa National Park

Just head west for 2 days see what we see turn around and head home.

Niagara Falls

Head to Vermont

May Just drive route 6 out west till it`s time to come back. Just afraid all I`ll do it burn gas with no destination in mind.

Last year you guys gave me a great trip to Boston with stops along the way. So What ideas do you guys have this year?

PS if your along the way perhaps I am impose on stopping by to borrow a hose ? Lol (not really kidding either).

Thanks

Jeff

Come down my way, lots of cool things to see near Baltimore, if you`re hear on a Saturday morning you can check out Hunt Valley Horsepower, the largest every week cars and coffee event in the USA! Last week 540 cars for 2 hours!
and of course you can use the shop to freshen up the car!

How about Memphis for some ribs?

Noting (for the umpteenth time :o ) that Accumulatorette is from Memphis and has a huge family there, it *is* a slightly safer environment than it used to be. One of those "gotta go there at least once" places IMO.

Her take on Ribs (yuck, but yeah I know...) in Memphis: Wet- Central BBQ; Dry- Rendezvous

LOTS of other good places to eat around where the Central is...Soulfish comes to mind.

EDIT: Eh, I think it`s too far from NYC for this vacation.

EDIT#2: Accumulatorette says I oughta stress the "slightly" in "slightly safer..".
