Is there any way to repair a turn signal lens that has buffer burn marks?

Hi all,

I posted this also in the machine polishing section but this area sees more traffic so I wanted to post here as well.

I was buffing my 2002 Z28 and forgot to tape off the drivers size turn signal lens. Of course I managed to burn the lens using my rotary buffer, Lake Country orange pad and M205. I tried rubbing out the burn marks using Ultimate Compound, M105, M205 but they will not budge.

My question is if there is a way to remove the burn marks which are roughly 6-8" long? I don't want to replace the lens as I would need to remove the front bumper to access the lens per ls1tech.com.

Thanks for all feedback!

Post pics? I'm going to assume you melted the plastic. If it's not to deep you can try sanding the lens if it's plastic

Be sure to tape off the paint when you are sanding! Also, understand that you will be sanding down the UV coat so that will need to be replaced. We used to use some stuff from Detail King a few years back that was pretty durable. It lasted about a year. And it was pretty affordable. We opti-coat them now. Some other people may have a good suggestion for headlight coatings on here though.

Thanks. I checked out the de-nibber from 3M and it is quite costly (several hundred dollars for the kit) which is way more than I wanted to spend for a 6" buffer trail mark on a turnsignal lens.

I may end up wetsanding and then polishing. The replacement lens brand new is only $10.00 although the ease of replacing is it not an exciting thought...

Not to correct fermani on this one, But the 3m denibbler is nice for paint nibs and thats about it. It will take you a very long time to do it with this tool. Its design is for pin head dirt spots in paint and not burn area's. If your spot is bigger then half a dime I would sand the lens, but either way your gonna sand threw the coating on the lens and loose all protection. To do it right will require more then sanding. Also how far deep did the burn go? Did it make a pull mark or a scuff? Wish you had photos.

Ok, I give up. I uploaded a picture and then I receive a red exclamation point. I even resized the pic and have the same result.

I would be happy to email a picture to someone that can help me. Feel free to pm me or email addy or you can email me at [email protected] and I will include a few pictures of the burn marks.

If someone can tell me what I am doing wrong with the uploading of pics, that would be great since I have never had an issue on other forums.
