Is there a difference between a polish and swirl remover? If so, what do I need?

It seems that most polishes are explained as "swirl removers" or am I missing something?

Basically I have some microscratches and swirl marks (as I've touched on in another thread) on my Brilliant Black Clearcoat.

Do I simply need a polish? Or do I need a polish AND a swirl remover? Or are they the same?

What is the best product for each?

Its the same, but the more aggressive polishes are called componds. Do you own a machine, if so what kind?

I understand. So ideally, do I only need to use a polish as long as my car doesn't have bad scratches on it, and only ones that can be seen in the sun?

And no, I don't own a machine. I'm thinking of purchasing one.

I'll admit, I'm still a rookie in car detailing. Up until last August, I always drove around beater cars...and never really cared about the precise care that a car really needs. That all changed a year ago when I bought my Brilliant Black Charger.

Do you have any recommendations on machines?

The Porter Cable is idiot proof, but the Flex will correct faster. If you are only detailing your personal cars then get a PC. As far as polishes goes, get Menz 106FA to correct light swrils and PO85RD to finish off. If you decide to get the PC search for some kits, but dont get the 6.5" pads. Get the 5.5" or 4" pad kit.

Egoolps,

I have a black SVT Cobra and I had the same microscratches/swirling you describe in your other post. I had good success using my PorterCable, Sonus Swirlbuster, with an orange pad.

I'm not an expert at this by any means, but the results I got were fantastic. I had never done this sort of correction, so was very apprehensive approaching the car with any sort of machine -- especially my new-to-me pride and joy -- but I found it was easy to use, and nearly foolproof. Go over to Autogeek and watch their videos about using the PC and polishes, it's very helpful.

Langod,

Thanks for that info.

Can I ask you which PorterCable machine you got? And do you use this for sealing and waxing also?
