is "Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine" as good as it claims

I noticed some people use Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine and it looks great. Does it really take the place of a regular "water car wash"?

What about it's practicality of it's other uses like in place of QD?

Thanks

I have the No-Rinse and QEW, and I'm one that prefers QEW. I didn't see any difference in the product's effectiveness or the car's appearance afterward when using NR instead of QEW. Maybe it's because I always add an ounce or so of PB's S&G to my QEW mixture.

Yes the hoseless washes can replace a traditional wash, absolutely.

They don't serve the same purpose as a QD. If you want to use a QD, do it. If you have too must dirt/dust to safely QD, bring out the hoseless wash, whichever you choose.

i just bought the 128 oz size from AG....so I hope so. But I was really debating if it would be better than PB Spray and Wipe. I read somewhere that someone didn't think it left as slick of a surface afterwards, but I got it anyway. Mainly because of it's price to flexibilty ratio? Not to HiJack this thread, but anyone have ideas on PBSW vs. ONR? I would still buy PB's if a consesus found it to be worth keeping around.

I live in a warm climate with no water restrictions and easy access to a hose. I use the Optimum NR because it is much easier drying the minivan afterwards, and I like not wasting water. My wife's van looks at least as good after using Optimum NR as it did after a traditional Z7 wash. I do not expect to go back to hose washing.

I have only used PB SnW, but it seems the QEW & NR type bucket washes are a direct alternate to a hose wash. PB SnW is more for when your a little to dirty for a QD and maybe not quite dirty enough for the hose.

So, for very dirty cars, there is not alternative to hose & rinse wash?

I don't know.....I saw White95Max clean his car with QEW and some MF's on here. His car was fairly dirty and it came out shiny and mar-free. I also saw someone else (Maybe Scottwax or Accumulator) showing before and after with a dirty panel next to a clean panel using NR and the dirty panels were VERY dirty. so i would think with the right technique, you could say adieu to the hose. Unfortunately, I'm still skeptical and working on my technique, so I'll keep up on the weekly washes and save the OptNR for the tweener days.

I like ONRWS alot better than QEW, it feels much slicker and leaves a better shine. If my car is super dirty, I use a pressure wash from the car wash myself on the lowest setting and get the heaviest stuff off.

I am sure that is why. That also would make QEW less cost effective, wouldn't it?

I used QEW for at least 13 years, the last couple adding QD to the mix. I now use ONR as is. :)

Has anyone used a Sheepskin Mitt for washing and/or WW for drying? Been reading about using MFs for both, but why not a SM and/or WW.

Could be, but I have 2.25 gallons of QEW and 2.5 gallons of S&G yet, so I don't intend to change my ways anytime soon. I'm very happy with the results of QEW/S&G. I was shocked to find almost zero marring on my car in 100% sunlight yesterday. With results like that, I have no reason to look for alternate products/methods.

I can see holding off until you need more product. QEW is still a great wash, certainly no reason to toss out that much!

I have QEW as well and was using it all winter. I just received some Optimum No Rinse Wash and tomorrow I'm getting the new Detailer's Pride 4-in-1 Rinseless Wash. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to try out all three this week and post my thoughts. Autogeek claims that their new DP product provides more lubricity than either of the other two . . . but I'll see about that. I plan on using all three straight (i.e. without QD) to make it a fair fight.

I use a WW for drying, works great. The Optimum NR makes a sheepskin mitt nasty (accumulates dirt) and doesn't seem to release it very well even in a separate rinse bucket. I use the MF because it does seem to release the dirt much better.

John,

I'm using a low nap (Sam's Club) MF, but I am a noob. I have not tried a plush MF, but I'm afraid it would accumulate dirt like the Lambswool Mitt.
