Is it worth putting Souveran on top of Deep Gloss 3.0 ?

Hi all,
First post here under a new username, I used to post hear quite a few years back.

Bought a new 2016 Cayman S in black. Just did the whole routine. So far I have only put the Souveran on the roof, the rest of the car is just DGPS. I see literally no difference in depth of shine, clarity, etc...What I do notice is that the Souveran finish is nowhere near as slick as the DGPS on the rest of the car. So my question is...What am I gaining by layering Souveran on top?

If the Souveran isn't adding anything, I wouldn't use it. I top WGDGPS with collinite 915 because it adds extra gloss and of course protection. I wouldn't do the work if it provided no benefit
 
Are you really seeing the roof well? (you will if you're 6'11 1/2")

Souveran is a beauty wax, very little durability.

Are you looking for looks or protection?

Car has 43 miles on it. I will store it in the garage and I detail myself so it will always look good. I put Wolfgang Deep Gloss 3.0 on the entire car and it looks amazing!! I then put a coat of Souveran just on the roof. I see absolutely zero difference in gloss or depth. The only thing that is different is that the roof with Souveran on it does not feel anywhere close to as slick as the Deep gloss.
 
I have topped WGDGPS with Souveran and Fuzion

Neither improved the look and both caused increased dust collection



i think they are best used on, Clean/Virgin paint
 
I have topped PBL paint coating with Soveran and noticed a distinct warmer look compared to the PBL paint coatings' candy look. IMHO any wax you on top of a coating will change the look.

Lim polishing and doing PBL next month. Will top with Fuzion. Should look pretty awesome

Oh....Yes I used Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3.0
Here is what I've done so far in this order:

1. Washed
2. Clayed
3. Washed
4. Air dried with Toro dedicated for car only, not leaves :))
5. Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3.0
6. Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant 3.0
7. Pinnacle Souveran just on the roof so far.

So my ultimate question when I began this thread was should I use Souveran OR Collinite 915 or no carnauba at all and just use Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant? Being that this is a brand new black Cayman S the paint is probably about as black wet and deep as its going to get so I am looking for the absolute BEST protection from the rain, pollutants, birds, bugs etc.. at this point.

if you don't see any difference with the souveran, put on another coat of deep gloss 3.0. I've been surprised a few times at the difference an extra coat of the same sealant makes, or in ron's case, how an extra 5 coats of wax will make. :)
 
I use Souveran on one car, so it's not like I dislike the stuff. But unless it adds some benefit I can't see any reason to use it.

Similarly, I hardly ever think that topping a sealant is worth doing. Unless the sealant leaves a look that I just can't stand, or doesn't protect well enough (that's why I'll eventually quit using UPP), I can't think of a reason to top it. And in either of those cases I'd rethink the sealant if it's not really all that (by itself).


Does the Wolfgang sealant protect OK against etching? I've never used it...

What's "wrong" (scare-quotes intentional) with just using the Wolfgang sealant by itself? All Souveran could ever add to anything is a slight change in apearance. If you don't see/appreciate that diff in appearance it's a waste of [everything] to apply the Souveran. The way it made the slickness drop off tells me that it's just not the LSP you want on there, and even makes me suspect that it might not be playing nice with the Wolfgang sealant.

No, waxes often aren't as slick as sealants, but Souveran never feels "draggy" for me when it's freshly applied (which it needs to be since it basically lasts from wash to wash).

Interesting, I basically *never* use Souveran on bare/stripped/etc. paint. It's always on top of something, even if just the stuff that paint cleaners (e.g., Pinnacle PCL) leave behind.

All good info. If I were to try Collinite...Which Collinite to create a "Bullet Proof" finish?

For a truly "Bullet Proof finish" I wouldn't use Collinite ;) Sorry, couldn't resist :o

But to really answer your Q, I'd choose between 476S (what I use) and 915 (some here prefer it but according to the guys at Collinite it's not as durable).

I'll call Collinite and ask then the differences/benefits of 476S vs 915 and pick one from there.

That could be interesting! I last talked with them back right before the (then new) VOC regs were to take effect, wonder what they say/recommend these days.
