Is clay necessary before doing rotary compounding on neglected paint??

Hi, I'll be tackling a heavily faded, trashed white 96 nissan sentra w/ lots of contaminants & treesap & other cr@p bonded to the paint.

My question is whether I should use a claybar to remove all the treesap & other contaminants before rotary compounding.

Or can I rotary compound first with a heavy cut cleaner, then a polish? thanks

well, either way will work, but in my experience, it'll save you the frustration of accidentally catching a lump of sap and twirl it all around the paint and pad if you clay first.

Yeah, if you dont prep it right it probably will just be a hair pulling mess. So clay it, and get that sap off with something and you will have something that wont take a toll on your pads or your attitude.
