iPod Owners - Which accessories to buy?

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend Liz's birthday is coming up in about two weeks and I'm on the hunt for a nice couple of gifts. I already have some stuff in mind, but she's had her heart set on an iPod which her parents are getting her.

I wanted to get some cool accessories for it but I was blown away when typing in "ipod" on ebay and getting 10's of thousands of results. Where do I start?!

So, Autopians, what do you all suggest?

Thanks in advance :).

You need to know how she plans on using the iPod. A good case and/or protective coating is always a good accessory, but there many type and styles to choose from. How the iPod will be used will help determine what type of case. For example, I use mine both in the car and at the gym. I wanted the ability to just throw the thing in a gym bag or on the seat of the car and go without damaging the iPod (function over style). I got a rigid full plastic case with clear on the front and back and rubber ends and foam inside to reduce shock and so the thing doesnâ€â„¢t get scratched up. The drawback to this case it is a little bulkier than some of the âہ“skinâ€Â type cases, but the protection is awesome.

Head phones are another suggestion. The ear buds that come with all the iPods while distinctive looking because of the white color are not comfortable for a large majority of the users. Once again the possibilities are endless. Active users are going to want something that stays on their head/ears and is water resistant because of sweet. While higher fidelity listeners may want something that cancels out outside noise and offers better dynamics.

There are also accessories for hooking the iPod up to a car stereo or a home stereo. Hardwiring the iPod utilizing the docking port results in the best quality sound.

Sean, I have a Marware case for my iPod. It's very versatile as it has several attachments that can be used to "wear" it in different ways. Take a look around their site www.marware.com. I have the neoprene case just in, well, case it falls there is some protection. It also gives it some "splash" protection for when I wear it out detailing(all the time). I need to get a new case as I'm using a 1G case with me 3G iPod.

I can say the accessory that I find the most vital for the iPod owner is a pair of high quality headphones. I have Etymotic ER6's and I am VERY happy with them. Their website lists them at $140 but you can find them online for $100 with the one year warranty.

1. An i-Tunes gift card for downloading music off of i-Tunes! You can get them at Target, Best Buy, Walgreens, etc.

2. A case or covering for the back of the i-Pod, which is easily scratched. I bought a clear plastic film made for the i-Pod that covers the back and the display, and so they are pristine (it uses static electricity, not adhesive so they are entirely removeable). This won't help protect it if it gets dropped, however. She will still probably want a case. www.trendygeek.com: I would get both.

3. Better headphones. The ones that come with the 'pod aren't really that good.

4. What kind of internet connection does she have, and what is her available disk space? I got a bigger hard drive to accomodate my music library (I had an older drive and went from 9 to 140gb) and had broadband put in. If she wants to download albums off of i-Tunes she should have broadband, or at least DSL.
