Just One More Coat
OK....I'm pretty good with technology but this Christmas I brought my son a Apple iPod and have no idea where to get the down load music at.....I looked at Napster but I don't see the iPod as one on the list thats compatable.....little help here would be nice.

Thanks

You don't need to use any specific place like Itunes, Napster etc. Its your choice as long as you are downloading music in a format that the Ipod can play which is everything except *.WMA . My recomendation is www.allofmp3.com I have been using them for over a year now. They are located outside of the US so they don't apply to the US RIAA rules and regulations. They are under the Eurepean RIA or what not. They charge you by the amount of file transfer at a rate of $0.02 per MB an entire album will cost you about $1.50 - $3.00 depending on what kind of encoding you use.

Very few legit music download sites work with the ipod. Obviously, the main one that does work is iTunes Music Store, which make everything very easy to put on the ipod. However, I don't like to pay $1 a song when a CD isn't much more, so I did some heavy-duty research and came up with www.chimp3.com. It's probably illegal (only 20 cents per song!), but even so because they are not a Peer2Peer they would be the ones getting in trouble, not us. I have had no problems with them, no viruses, and everything is organized, but it can be time consuming to download them and load them onto the iTunes library.

I've thought of allofmp3.com, but they are a Russian company with some shady marketing practices. Not saying there's anything wrong with them, but they advertise much like Dri wash n guard or 5-star shine, and that kind of advertising pisses me off.

Focusedonsound is right that the iPod cannot play .wmv files, I believe there are others that also cannot play on the iPOd because they are Playsforsure supported.

Sherman8r44 .... what do you mean by their shaddy advertising policys? Im just curious because I have never had a problem! Although I am taking a look at www.chimp3.com now. The only problem that I have found with www.allofmp3.com is that they don't always have new releases right away. Other than that I have found no problems!

How do you d/load those to your player ? Do you have to have a program of some sort? I have "Rhapsody" which is cheaper then iTunes, but its easily downloadable to my player.

You download the music to your computer and put it into a folder (usually name of the band.)go into Itunes.

Go to File, Add Folder to Library and Itunes will then import them into Itunes.... easy as pie!

There are also other programs that you can use to add and remove music to and from your Ipod one of them is called ephPOD the nice thing about ephPOD is that you can get past the Itunes copy write garbage, and you can also Backup your Ipod.

Thanks all I just looked at iTunes and downloaded the software and setup the account....this is not about saving money its about getting it done and being able to make it work on Christmas day for my son

Thanks allot thats more of what I wanted to do anyway...he has quite a few already
It's very easy to do with iTunes. You just put the CD in the CD-ROM drive and click the import icon in iTunes. I had about 300 CDs when I bought my iPod. So, I'm very experienced with ripping CDs.
