Hello All!
My name is Mark and I live in South Houston, Texas. I work as an Operations Supervisor at one of the large oil refineries located along the Houston Ship Channel. I am not an Urban Cowboy, but I did visit Gilley's after the movie came out. I was only about 13 at the time and Gilley's burned down a few years later. Anyway, I will try to answer the questions from the sticky as best I can:
1. How did you wind up at Autopia? I was looking for quality car car products and heard good things about the Autopia site in the Detail section of the Bob Is The Oil Guy site.
2. What do you like most about detailing? I like seeing my car shine after spending an afternoon outside washing and waxing.
3. What are your favorite products/processes and why? I am still trying to figure out what my favorite products are. I have used Epic Prima, Meguiar's NXT 2.0 and Rejex. Out of all of those I would guess that Prima was my favorite so far.
4. What's your dream car and why? I used to think that my favorite would be a Mercedes, but lately I am struck by the Volkswagen line.
5. What's the best thing you learned on Autopia? So far the Claymagic Blue tip proved to be very helpful. I am still very new to this site though.
6. What are some of your other hobbies and interests? I like anything that has to do with computers. I am starting to like Linux, but am not ready to abandon Microsoft just yet.
7. Do you have any pets? If so, types, names, pics. My family and I love animals. We have four dogs, two cats, two ferrets, two rabbits, a parrot and a duck! My favorite is a Chihuahua-Terrier mix named Maggie. She is fairly small (~10 lbs) but has the attitude of a much larger dog. She does battle with our 110 lb Golden Retriever by standing on my mattress so she can be face to face him.
8. Name three secret techniques that you think you should share to fellow Autopians. Really I am too new to have much to offer. I guess my tip would be to use the Meguiar's NXT wash, it is my favorite so far.
9. Where are you from and where do you live now? I was born here in Houston, Texas. My mother remarried when I was six and we moved to Long Island, New York. I grew up on Long Island, but spent my Summer vacation each year visiting family in Houston. When I left the USAF in 1990, the cost of living in Texas was much lower than New York. I have lived in Houston ever since, but do visit my mother, brothers and sister in New York about every other year.
10. What was you first car and what got you interested in keeping cars perfect? The first car that I actually owned was a 1989 Nissan Sentra that I purchased new while I was stationed at Myrtle Beach AFB. Honestly, I only recently began taking an interest in keeping my vehicles clean and polished. I own a 2007 Honda Civic LX which I bought new in May 2007. My wife drives a 2006 Honda Pilot LX 2WD, which was bought new in May 2006.
11. What motivates you to detail? I typically drive my vehicles until the wheels fall off. It makes sense to keep the outside clean and polished accordingly.
12. Would you ever pay someone else to detail your car? Perhaps, but only if they were able to do something that I was unable to do myself.
13. Does detailing run in the family at all, or are you the only normal one? My wife does a good job keeping her vehicle clean. I am more into washing and waxing than she is though.
14. What is your favorite part about detailing? Honestly, getting done and seeing the finished product is my favorite part.
15. If detailing is a hobby for you, would you like to do it full time, or do you feel that it would take the fun out of it? I think it would get old if I had to deal with customers and all that goes with it.
