Interview for a detailing job...

I applied for a job at a dealership detailing vehicles. Not to get into money, but it pays well and offers a 401k, health insurance, etc... and I'm only 18, so it's a good job to me. Got a call from them today and they want me to come in for an interview. If I'm offered the job, do you think I should go for it?

Sure. Just understand that they are not going to have Autopian standards for their cars. At dealerships it's all about getting it done as quickly as possible and getting the car out the door. Probably a fun job at 18 though so I say go for it.

Yeah, I realize they're not going to have Autopian standards, but I want to get good at the basics because I eventually I want to have my own detailing business.

Well their basics tend to be flawed too, but maybe you can reason with them in allowing you to wash correctly at the very least. ;)

Well I don't see how this is going to benefit me at all then. Well, I have a job opportunity at the local hospital that also pays decent and has cheap health coverage. I honestly think I'm going to stick to this site for detailing help. And while you're here:

I don't mean to irritate you with these "newb" questions, but I keep finding so many different answers on here.

What are the basic steps to an exterior detail, this is what I have been taught:

1)Wash

2)Claybar

3)Pre-wax cleaner

4) Some sort of wax

5) Polish or Sealant

Sure go for it. Most dealers want a wash and clean the interior. I used to work at a few car dealers, so I know. There generally is no paint correction, not even clay bar. You will learn how to wash quickly, if only though repetition.

Of course you can try to expand their idea of what a detail is too.

This^^^, but not all cars have to be compounded. Evaluate the finish, do a few test spots, and choose the least aggressive method to achieve your desired results. Often a polish is all you'll need. ;)
