Intermezzo/ black BMW

I noticed you have a black BMW so maybe you can help with a recommendation. A friend of mine spent last weekend claying, polishing with Meg#9 using CMA white pad and a PC, Meg #7, then #26 on his black BMW. He still has swirls marks. I am going to give him some DACP to try. We are both concerned about working on his black/BMW because black can be very unforgiving. His paint also has some tiny white specks that claying and the #9 did not remove. You can not feel the tiny/micro white speck but if you look close under a strong light they are there.



Any suggestions?

It's hard to say what those white specks are. I'm assumming that these specks you're referring to are not very small chips in the front area from normal driving/freeway driving?



Meguiar's #9 didn't do anything for even the lightest scratches/swirls on my car (nor 3M SMR, for that matter). It was only until I stepped up to Finesse-It II with a polishing pad, followed by a mild polish was I able to really bring the amount of imperfections to an acceptable level (i.e. pretty much invisible). I'm sure DACP would work fine on your friend's car. I started with the polishing pad because my swirls were pretty light and this combo ended up working perfectly for me. I got very little haze and except for a few deeper scratches which I compounded out by hand later, my car was swirl free. I'd try DACP with a polishing pad first and if that doesn't work, try it with a cutting pad. Follow it up with a swirl-remover like Meg #9 to clear up any haze (if any!) and you'll be all set for your protectant.



You're SO right about black being unforgiving. When detailing my black bmw, I often find myself taking a very different mind-set than when detailing other colors....especially metallics.

can you please go over your steps on how you detailed your black car. what is DACP? also, is the polishing pad the white or the yellow pad?
 
DACP is Meguiars "Dual Action Cleaner Polish". This polish is stronger than a SMR and has the added benefit of cleaners that help you see the end result without having to remove oils or fillers. I find it very easy to use. Thanks to Al Boston for the referral.

If you plan on getting pads from CMA, then the polishing pad is the white one and the cutting pad is yellow. If you plan on purchasing from meguiar's, then the polishing is yellow and the cutting is maroon.

Here are two pics of my Father's car that I detailed recently. I used DACP with the yellow cutting pad, P21S GEPC with the white polishing pad, Platinum polish with the white polishing pad, and Platinum sealant with the grey finishing pad.



When I started, the cars finish was pretty well scratched up. By the time I was finished, it looked pretty darn good. I later topped the car with P21S wax.

Definitely an incredible looking detail job!



Here's a more modest pic, done by scanning a regular photo. I really need to get a digital camera. It's not quite on the level of AMP99, but it looks killer in person. At the time, the car was prepped with FI-II, followed by SMR followed by Meguiar's Hand Polish and waxed with Blitz.
