Long story short

Bought racing seats

Want to match the rear seats, black cloth

Upholstery shop wants about 500

**** that, too much

How can I have this done cheaper? Can I do it myself if I get the fabric for a fabric store, follow the stock patterns and take my time? Help me out guys.

In my opinion that's way too much. Typical rear seats will have about 3 yards of material in them. If you use off the shelf black cloth at $25/yd you're at $75. About 3 or 4 hours labor to pattern and sew the seats at $25/hr and you're at $175.

It would be very difficult to sew the covers yourself without an industrial sewing machine. You also have to know the cut and sew process to cut the seats apart to make your own patterns to try and save money.

I can try and walk you through it if you want. It's not difficult but you need to get the person doing the sewing's approval first as they might say, you did this much you're on your own.

By the way I've been in automotive seating for 13 years, both trim shop and factory that made 500,000 car seats per year.
