I am trying to get an idea of what I will need to clean the rugs the best that I can in the most time efficient manner or in the cheapest manner? (I'm assuming there will be two possibilities for this)

thanks.

Low Price Or High Quality?

Pick One.

It's Impossible To Have Both .

"Good work is not cheap, Cheap work is not good."

What I was asking for is, answers to lwo price or high quality. (I'm just curious)

If you are just doing your own car, you should just rent an extractor from your local supermarket or "BIG BOX" type store.

this is what I used to do- go rent a rug doctor once a year. I just got for a present this christmas however a mini-extractor which I find so far to work just as well: Bissell's Little Green ProHeat Turbobrush. I got mine for $40 on sale at a Value City store. Normally these go for ~100.00 but IMO it would be a worthwhile investment. :up I'll probably be doing a review of mine when I get time, so look forward to that. :up

and for a scrub brush, I use one I got inexpensively (like 2 bucks) at menard's. (probably any supermarket would have these since its by rubbermaid.) does the trick.

Oh, and for my extractor solution, I used a really small quantity of tide mixed with oxiclean, along with some APC+ and then diluted with distilled water. Shake the mixture, then put it in the extractor and let it heat up, then you're ready to use it.

I am a huge fan of Prestone carpet cleaner. It has been working great for me for years. Another wonder product that I discovered last year was Advanage. You can get it at www.advanage.com Its a super concentrated formula that does the best job on carpets, engines, glass, and everything else I've used it on. It does amazing things for carpets though. I would suggest it to anyone who was looking for something new. Very economical too.

Well, dont make up your mind so fast. I recently bought a Bissel Little Green steam cleaner, with accesories it was only aroun $100. It works well for the price range... granted it is no $1800 extractor, but it has a water heater, several brush choices and gets the job done quickly and easily. It works extremely well on stains, and really does a good job of bringing the carpet back to new looking and feeling.

I got mine from Lowes, it was a good infestment. :wavey

Got a pretty new one. three hundred dollars. It has heat and a turbo brush. Turbo brush is worthless, along with other attachments( maybe good for getting last bit of water). After experimenting, I found if I just did not use the tools and just use the extractor machine as it is used for in-doors(main unit) it brings carpets back like new. The tools don't have the brush speed and power to do the job. Plus using the machine is quicker anyway. Good for the house too. Can't go wrong with a Bissel.

Just wanted to add something. Anyone try OXYCLEAN with an extractor? Like, use it on the carpet and then brush, followed by sucking it up? Need to find a good automotive low foaming carpet cleaner that cleans dirt and grease fast. Just curious if anyone has experimented with oxyclean. The Bissel chemicals are not cutting it either in the cars.

Mines a heated Sensei extractor. Cost: $1400

I use Pro's Heavy Duty Interior Cleaner and they California Orange as cleaners. I also got a carpet brush from my distributor. Dont' know if it is PRO's but a brush with stiff bristles should get the job done.

I have the same unit you have- did you read my post??

I have the Bissel Pro-heat PowerSteamer Pro-Tech. It is a maroon color. Cost three hundred. The TURBO brush that came with it is worthless in cars. I just use the entire unit and it is faster. What a strange concoction.

Tide? mixed with oxyclean? And some All purpose cleaner? and then dilute all of it with distilled water? You shake it then put it in the extractor machine? Is that good for the machine, the grit from the oxyclean powder along with tide? If I did what you did how do I know how much is a little tide and how should I dilute it? Is it all estimating? Does that work? Got any before and after pictures?

I'll have to get you some pictures.... I plan on doing a review of the unit I have once I get to doing my wife's car (so far I've only done my truck with it) but yeah I basically just estimate.... and as far as the grit and stuff, I just shake it up until I'm sure all the grit is gone (I use a stirrer to feel arround in the mixture and make sure there's nothing still lurking at the botom of the mix.) then I'm all set.

BTW- if you're such a cynical skeptic, and worry about the grit from oxiclean and tide, why do you even bother asking the question? All you do is come back with "you do WHAT?" as a flavor of response. Thats un-needed. Only ask a question if you're going to be moderately accepting of the answer from someone who's tried it and knows it works. :argue ;) (Not flaming)

I believe I was talking about just using the oxyclean with a scrub brush and ONLY sucking it up.

then put it in the extractor

I was not talking about putting it IN an extractor. I reacted with YOU DO WHAT? because I thought it might clog the hoses with the grit and ingrediants. Does this help clear things up? I think that is where you were confused? I will have to try it. Though I am still skeptical. You say you just got this as a Christmas present? Just this past Christmas 2002? Just wondering if that would ruin the unit after doing that several times. Let me know when you do the review can't wait to see it.

yep- I went out after we had dinner on christmas and tried this.... I found out that the bissell formula doesnt do much (atleast for me it doesnt) so I mixed up this stuff..

honestly I don't know what kind of prolonged effects it may have on the machine.
