Interesting job ahead...

So out of nowhere I get this call from a guy in Minnesota asking me about my detailing services. It isn't uncommon for me to get phone calls from people asking for advice. I do make my information pretty easy to get on my site I guess, but this is one of the few times that someone has asked me to travel across the country to detail. Here is the interesting part though... He found me trhough an ad on Craigslist from someone using the OCDetails name out there. He thought it was a chain or something. There is no relation to the other guy using the name other than the fact that I know he hates my guys. I banned him like three times on Autopia and he was banned twice more after that. He was banned from Detail City as well as Autogeek and Meguiars Online to my knowledge. He has openly posted about how much he dislikes me in the past on the last hangout of banned members of the previously mentioned forums. I just find it really interesting that after hating my guts for so long that he would use my business name.

That's ok though. $25 bucks fixed the problem. ;) I mailed in my registration of the OCDetails business name in the state of MN the other day. Once it shows as being registered to my name I'll have my attorney send him a cease and desist letter advising him to pick something else. It isn't that I care so much that somone is using my name. I mean, someone gave me the idea years ago and just never did anything with it, so if someone wants to come up with it on their own or take it from me then that is fine. What isn't fine is that someone who hates my guts openly one minute decides to use my name the next. I don't trust that he isn't out to ruin my reputation or something.

So the guy who wants me to come out offered to pay me a ridiculous amount of money to spend a week in Minneapolis and detail his classics and exotic car collections as well as several vehicles of his friends. He told me that this other dude tried to tell him to not do business with me, so that is where I get the idea that he may have ulterior motives for using my business name. Maybe I should start advertising on Craigslist for the two weeks that I'll be out there and set up as many details as I can, eh? Perhaps I'll run into my nemisis and we can have lunch and talk about how much business he just gave me. :lol2: The really funny thing was that this guy was even more motivated to bring me out there after this other detailer tried to steer him in another direction. I guess he doesn't trust the integrity of a man who uses someone else's name and tries to ride on the coat tails of whatever reputation it might have. I know I wouldn't trust that.

I'd post the ad or say who the detailer was, but it isn't really relevant. The funny part was just that it happened at all. How far have any of you gone for a job? I've gone to Toronto a couple times to detail for friends as well as bringing some stuff with me whenever I go back down to Dallas, but typically I try to keep it within a hundred miles of my house. Then again, I've never been offered to fly in first class to the location and get VIP treatment the whole time either. :wow:Someone pinch me on this one. lol

4235 miles is how far I traveled for work four years in a row. Drove it three times and flew once. Of course I planned to stay for s5 or 6 months. LOL!!

Get your ad up on Craig's list and see what it will bring. If you are going to take two weeks to be in Minnesota that would be the prudent thing to do.

Yup. In fact, he has already paid half of it. I am shipping my supplies in advance and he was worried that I wouldn't do the job if I thought it was going to be a ripoff. So he paid me the daily rate that we worked out in advance for his vehicles and then he will pay me the rest when I get done. I could replace everything I am going to send up there about ten times with the amount he has already paid, so I'm not concerned at all.

Craigslist has changed a bit since the last time I posted. They only let me post three listings in the same place one after another. Oh well. Normally I spread out my postings so the whole linking them together thing is more practical, but they have even disabled some of the functionality of posting with html. I can't do links behind pictures anymore, so I had to link the other pages at the bottom and then link those to another site that hosts the rest of the pages. Anyway, here she be. :) OCDetails mobile detailing services

Wow! That Craigslist posting was definitely successful. I filled up my entire time there in just a couple of days. I actually had to take the ads down so I wouldn't get any other requests. You gotta love Craigslist for that kind of stuff!! Awesome!!

I know a detailing friend that traveled a long distance to detail a car and got stiffed on the payment.
