Hi all,

Well I recently totaled my volvo, which was pristine..Oh well

I picked up a used Infiniti 2003 QX4, nice shape over all but the previous owner did not do Sh** to keep the paint clean and managable for future Autopians.

My volvo responded well to a white pad and IP...followed by AIO/SG...the paint was sooooo slick..like butta'

Well this was my first spin on the ol' QX4...lots of ime spent I felt wasted

The sides feel nice and smooth...but a few of the panels and hood are a bit rough as if I never PC'd???

I used the IP with a white pad at 4k...then AIO/SG one layer

The results were not as good as I had with the volvo using the same method

Is there anything that I can use that has a bit more bite...but...is safe for me to use on a PC with a grey/silver color..diamond graphite?

Im not an expert but Do an OK job and take my time..I do not want to ruin the paint as I found IP to be mild

I want to use my PC with a white pad and AIO to follow..anything I can pick up at a store or would I have to order?

Once again..I need something safe here..im new to this color

Also has a few fine scratches and waterspots that IP did not hit,so we need to adress this too

Thanks for the help..I need to bring back that slick feel I so long for with this new car

Thanks for the help

First clay the surface. The rough feeling you might be feeling might also be overspray. A LOT of dealers repaint the hood to get of rock chips. You will def want to step up to a cutting pad (orange and yellow from Lake Country is what I have and use.) I find that Poorboys SSR2.5 with a yellow LC cut pad and the PC does wonders. If I cant get something out with that combo then I bust out the makita buffer. IP is pretty mild, SSR2.5 is a touch more aggressive then IP imo.

clay was first step during the wash today

would you recomment orange or yellow?

obviously i can get this at por boys...hmmm i wonder i i have them here in pinellas county florida

Autogeek.net is in florida somewhere I believe, def check out their website, very good customer service, I have ordered a ton of stuff from them before! You can order poorboys and the LC pads there. I would try the orange. The yellow is pretty aggressive. I think both are needed in some cases, but I use the orange the most. From least to most aggressive, LC rates it Grey, White, Orange, Yellow.

Oh and definetly dont be scared to bump the PC speed up to 6! I rarely use it below six unless its a grey pad with an wax or sealant. I may start on 3 or to spread the polish and then bump it to 6 to work the polish in.

Ya, I would recommend using at least the orange pad with IP. I use orange with IP and it does a really good job on my paint. I have yellow, but haven't tried it yet. There are LC pads, and by touch, it would lead me to believe that the orange has more cut than the yellow because it is a lot sitffer.

Yeah, I think you're not being aggressive enough on the Infinity. Try claying, than two passes of IP/Orange pad. If that doesn't clear it up acceptably, move up to SSR2.5/Orange pad. Keep in mind that you might need to make multiple passes in order to get a good result. Follow up with SSR1 or FPII on a white pad, and apply your LSP of choice. It should look amazing after this process, if it doesn't you might need the help of someone with a rotary.
